The theme, ‘Capture Change,’ invites global artists to submit powerful imagery that reflects Climate change, human rights, the fight for freedom, gender equality, resistance against oppression, the struggle against racism, and the pursuit of justice, equality, and peace across borders.

RIPPLE OF CHANGE, One World, One Fight!

Short Film Call: “Ripples of Change: One World, One Fight”

This theme explores how small acts of courage, regardless of their location, can create global movements for human rights, peace, and justice. We seek films that illustrate how individual actions—whether advocating for peace, freedom, climate justice, political oppression, refugee rights, equity, racism, sexism, or climate change—can inspire people worldwide to unite against human rights violations.

I’m so honored to have my artwork “Our Blood is the Same Color” selected to be showcased in Times Square as part of the “United Nations artists initiative” @unitednations And Art’s For the Future.

This piece, titled “Our Blood is the Same Color,” represents the shared humanity that connects us all, no matter where we come from. Grateful to be part of a global conversation through art. #OurBloodIsTheSame #TimesSquare #UnitedNations #ArtForChange #GlobalUnity #HonoredArtist

The future of leadership will be shaped by those who lead with their hearts, driven by empathy, passion, and courage. Art will play a crucial role in this transformation, offering a way to explore, express, and embody these qualities. By incorporating art into leadership practices and recognizing its value, we can create a world where leadership transcends mere power and intellect, fostering deep connections and driving meaningful, compassionate change through creative expression.
My Special thanks to @lisarussellfilm for her leadership and impact for the role of artists at the @unitednations and @thehugxyz for selecting my artwork.⭐️ #ourbloodisthesamecolor taken in Times Square, New York City by @farnazfarokhi

History is not only what happens to us. It is also what changes because we were here.

As “Cartography of Presence “ comes to an end, I return to the question at the heart of this work: What remains of a place after we leave it, and what remains of us within the places and histories we have touched?

Many of these photographs were taken in Iran, where my roots, memory, beauty, loss, resilience, and hope inhabit the same landscape. Others emerged across different geographies and chapters of my life. With time and distance, they became less about the places themselves and more about what we carry, what we remember, and what refuses to disappear.

In a world being continuously reshaped by borders, displacement, conflict, and change, presence is not passive.

To be present is to witness and change.
To remember is to resist disappearance.
To create is to leave open the possibility of change.

And last but not least, my deepest gratitude to two powerful and beautiful women. @zahra_jlayer zahra_jlayer , whose curatorial vision at @vandagallery.newro gave this body of work a powerful stage to unfold, and to Golbahar Kazemian, whose generous sponsorship and belief helped make this exhibition possible. And to everyone who entered the space, shared a story, stood in front of a work, or chose to carry one moment into their own life—thank you.

You did not simply witness Cartography of Presence.
Your presence became part of its map.

The exhibition has ended.
The traces remain.

Cartography of Presence
(Aug8- Aug29)

Zahra Jlayer
Curatorial Statement

Cartography of Presence explores the shifting relationship between place, memory, and emotional experience. The work considers how moments continue to inhabit us long after they have passed, and how memory is never fixed, but continually reshaped, adding, fading, and replacing details over time.

Memory rarely remains in focus.

Through a language of softness, fragmentation, and blurred imagery, these photographs move away from documentation and toward recollection. The places depicted are not presented as they once existed, but as they persist within memory: incomplete, atmospheric, and emotionally charged. What is absent becomes as significant as what remains, suggesting that memory is shaped as much by loss and distance as by presence.

At the heart of the work is an intimate experience of migration and displacement. As an Iranian woman whose life has been shaped by movement across places and borders, the artist approaches landscape not simply as geography, but as an emotional terrain—one where personal history, longing, belonging, and absence intersect.

Cartography of Presence invites viewers to consider their own internal maps: the places they have left behind, the moments that continue to shape them, and the memories that have gradually transformed with time.

Ultimately, the work suggests that our relationship to place does not end when we leave it. We carry these places within us, continually redrawn through memory, emotion, and time. We are shaped not only by where we have lived, but by what continues to live within us.

Cartography of Presence
Solo Photography Exhibition
By: Farnaz Farrokhi
.

Farnaz is an Iranian-born multidisciplinary artivist, and researcher whose practice is grounded in lived experience and informed by a transnational life shaped by migration, intercultural exchange, and global engagement. Working across mediums, she examines how political and geographic realities become lived human experience, and how artistic practice can transform personal experience into collective reflection. At the core of her work is an interest in how experiences of real lived experiences, movement, displacement, and cultural transition reshape the ways people perceive themselves, others, and the spaces they inhabit. Her work investigates memory not as an archive of the past, but as a living force that continues to shape perception, belonging, and our experience of place and presence. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including representations by the United Nations Civil Society and its institutional partners in New York and Geneva.
.
We invite you to join us in celebration of her works on August 15th 4-6 pm
Meet the artist in person and enjoy her beautiful art on display

You may hang their bodies,
but where will you hide their light?
How pitiful
is the hand
that dreams of hanging the moon.
All you do
is make the branches
accomplices to your eternal shame.
