I seriously can't believe we are still dealing with this kind of fucking misogyny in the cycling world but at the same time I absolutely can. I'm fucking over it. The men in our cycling family should not be silent about any of this. Quite the opposite, it should be our responsibility to be the first to immediately attack those that would continue to denigrate our sisters into sexual objects for the purpose of profits.

Nothing relaxes me more than building a beautiful wheelset. A client had approached me for a bike he'd dreamed of but didn't know how to go about designing or building it. Luckily this is my area of expertise!! ☺️

Not wanting to go down the route of buying a new and soulless gravel bike like almost everyone else buying bikes these days he entrusted me with a blank check almost to make a dependable and fashionable bike for him and not cut any corners along the way. Often I find myself having to get creative to fit people's budgets and I don't mind at all but it's these builds that really bring me joy.

Here you see the process of setting up Campagnolo Chorus hubs with Sapim race spokes to Mavic Open Pro rims with brass nipples. A super strong build that will fit the 32c tires we have planned for his vintage Pinarello Promenade build.

It's this type of project. That's the reason that I started doing this work to begin with. I'd come across this frame pretty beat up. Pretty neglected with some atrocious components on it from a kindly old man in the Netherlands. The paint had been damn near destroyed on the down tube as well as parts of the bottom of the seat tube and all of the bottom brackets. It had been sitting in my Keller for the past year. Having been eyeballed by one of my favorite humans on Earth who lives in Glasgow, Scotland, we made an agreement and after this year's trips we took together riding bikes through the Swiss Alps. He was going to come here and we were going to prepare it for him to go home with. A great friend of mine who does professional painting for architects was also a great long-time friend of James and agreed to do the paint job immediately so we got to work.

What you see here is a culmination of just 2 days, granted two massive days, of working together and creating one very very special machine for one very beautiful human being. Stefan created a beautiful quick Masterpiece in a style that is purely his own with a very strong couple of layers of clear coat because we know as much as we tell him not to he's going to be working as a messenger on this princess. The components were picked for mainly aesthetics and budget restrictions so that he could have the bike immediately and ride off into the sunset with her.

A little bit about myself..... seeing as how I'm the sole employee...🙃

My bike life started after a terrible "accident" happened when I threw myself down a huge flight of steps on a piece of wood on four wheels broke my ankle into a constellation of bone chips. Friends began to take me and my wheelie chair to the local, punk kids bike non-profit to pass time. I got bored and asked how I could help, and they pointed, with tattooed fingers, to a gigantic pile of freshly donated bikes.

"Break these down, then organize the parts."
Three months later, I was a decent enough mechanic and had donated enough time to be allowed to build my very first steel horsey. Three months after that I put all that I needed to live on that bike and began a 1200 mile(1800 or so km) to my new home of Minneapolis where I would be introduced to the next phase of the rest of my life. It was there, in a winter that saw -42C, that I began my life as a bike courier. I lasted one winter, and in the spring, I said my goodbyes and set off for New York City with a track bike and 2 messenger bags.

It's been roughly 20 years since then, and I have barely made ten dollars on anything else but this wonderful and often wacky machine. Whether it was riding them, fixing them, building new ones or creating freak creations with my home in Brooklyn lovingly called the Chicken Hut that was started by the kids from Black Label Bicycle Club (think hells angels with less motors, violence and toxic masculinity but about the same amount of drugs, alcohol and law breaking).... my life had become the way of the bike.

After all this, about 25000 miles toured and countless friendships and lessons... I want to share this world and passion with those already feeling the itch. This is my offer to you, Berlin, and those who order worldwide.

It isn't just a machine for sport or convenience. It is possibly the beginning of the biggest adventure of your life.
