I had a wonderful couple of days celebrating my birthday in beautiful, sunny Brighton!
The weather was amazing - warm with gorgeous blue skies and I enjoyed drinks on the beach, pottering around the the Lanes and stunning sunsets.
I love the seaside and it was birthday heaven! 🥂😎

Yesterday was a tonic for the soul!
As a finale for Second Hand September I took part in an up cycling workshop with my lovely sewing group @fastfashiontherapy
We were given bags of donated clothes from @ayokacharityshop that were destined for sale as rag and tasked with turning them into wearable garments.
I chose a plain boucle jacket that had had all of its buttons removed and was looking a bit sad and I made it a bit more Chanel-like by embellishing it with mismatched buttons, adding a few extra to the collar and pockets.
It was easy and very satisfying and I have to say that I’m pretty pleased with it.
Later on we took our upcycled pieces and wore them in a fashion show run by @st.margarets.house aimed at showing how secondhand is not just sustainable but original and stylish too.
We had a lot of fun going down the catwalk in charity shop clothes. I chose a rock chick look and was told that I looked like Slash from Guns N Roses so I went with it!
The whole day was a joyful celebration of multi cultural and age inclusive community and sustainability and was the perfect antidote to the hatred and division that is currently permeating the world.
It was also the perfect antidote to the ridiculous mantra of “new season new look” that we get bombarded with every Autumn.
I saw this article in the weekend magazine and quite honestly am staggered that anyone could see these clothes as new ideas!
Grey jumpers, jeans, blazers and lace up shoes. Come on!!
I’m just going to stick with wearing what I like and I hope that you will too.

If you need something to lift your mood, and who doesn’t in these times of daily horrific news stories, then this exhibition might just help.
Paint! Pattern! Print!! at the Fashion and Textile Museum @fashiontextilemuseum is a joyful look back over the work of sisters Susan Collier and Sarah Campbell.
They designed for Habitat and Liberty but eventually built their own company in order to control the quality and follow their own path.
The colours and prints are just beautiful and as the note from Sarah’s workshop says, Exuberance is beauty!
Of course I wore my own vintage Collier Campbell shirt but couldn’t find that design in the archives on display. The nearest I could see was the drawing of a passion flower that features in the design of my shirt. I’d love more information on this if anyone can help.
Also, I thought I caught a glimpse of the stylish fashion historian, @amberbutchart out of the corner of my eye yesterday. I would love to have said hello but I felt like I was coming down with a cold and the last thing I wanted to do was pass on my germs to her.

Even though I love Autumn I always find it hard to say goodbye to Summer.
The long days and short skirts are so seductive and who doesn’t love the ease of just wearing a dress and sandals?
I don’t think I’ll ever forget the Summer of 2026 - you were a corker!!
Meanwhile I’m making the most of the last rays of sunshine and taking part in Secondhand September. I sign up every year even though it’s a way of life for me now. It feels good to be part of a movement and I like to spread the word.
Everywhere you look at this time of year there are messages about the new season, pushing us to buy stuff most of us likely don’t need.
Even if you follow trends they are so fleeting and mostly uninspiring, I say far better to find your own style and rewear what you already have.

It was so lovely to spend time with my Cornish family.
We enjoyed a boat trip to St. Mawes and a drive out to Mullion Cove. The scenery was beautiful and the company even better.
I’m so lucky to have a connection to this very special part of the world and I always leave a chunk of my heart behind.
Special mention to my very stylish Auntie Dot, in the yellow here. She ran a boutique for years and is the epitome of the buy better and make it last ethos. She’s proudly wearing her own vintage wardrobe of high quality pieces that she’s treasured for decades and is a true sustainable fashion icon!

Two of my favourite places in Falmouth: The Chintz @thechintzbar and Beerwolf @beerwolf_books

The Chintz has quirky decor, a lovely atmosphere and excellent beer and cocktails (this very large drink is one of their specialities, a Gintz)

Beerwolf is a bar in a bookshop and couldn’t be more perfect as it combines two of my favourite things!

Cheers! 🥂🍻😎

The Hurvin Anderson exhibition at Tate Britain is a joy!!

I didn’t really know his work before and apparently it’s his first major solo show so hopefully word will spread and his paintings can be enjoyed by a bigger audience.

The artist’s family moved to Birmingham from Jamaica in the 1960s and lots of his work is influenced by his cultural heritage and his experiences of both places. I love the saturated colours of the Caribbean pictures and the works depicting ordinary life, especially those of his family at home with all the details of the carpets and wallpaper.

There are only a couple more weeks left to see it but I highly recommend it if you can get there.

Hanging out in Hackney Wick where the street art never fails to make an impact!

This fabulous piece is by @vladrealart and I love how hyper realistic it is, even though it looks like I’m about to be eaten by a giant snake!

The long, hot Summer continues and I can’t deny that I love the warmth and sunshine but the realities of climate change make for a worrying future.

Tracey Emin A Second Life at Tate Modern @tate

Being a member has lots of advantages but by far the best thing is being able to visit an exhibition several times and with Tracey Emin you definitely need time to process everything.

It’s always been impossible to separate her life from her art and I’ve long admired her for her raw honesty and for being totally herself.

I’ve seen quite a few of these pieces before but they never fail to pull me in. It was really interesting to see some family photographs and read her personal notes on her life growing up, although much of it is heartbreaking.

Her mental and physical pain are at the front and centre of everything she does and although some of it can be hard to view it certainly packs a punch.

I’ve always loved her tapestries and my favourite thing of all is the film entitled Why I Never Became a Dancer where she moves joyfully to Silvester’s You Make Me Feel Mighty Real in response to the men who had sex with her when she was underage.

There are things that could be triggering for some people but they are clearly signed and can be avoided.

I can appreciate why she’s not everyone’s cup of tea but she’s definitely mine.

Sharing the last of my Berlin photos - the final stop on my German Interrail adventure.

It was my first time so I couldn’t resist doing some of the touristy things:
Checkpoint Charlie, The Topography of Terrors, the very simple but very chilling Holocaust Memorial, fragments of the Wall and The Brandenberg Gate.

I’ll definitely be coming back to explore some of the cooler neighbourhoods. Please share your tips if you’ve been 😎
