Start up magazines, like musicians, come and go, but some go from strength to strength. Back in the summer of 2020 I was flattered to be asked to photograph the musician @fayhallam for the first edition of one such publication, @thedetailmag . Almost six years later and this has landed on my doormat, the twentieth edition, guest edited by none other than Paul Weller, and what an edition it is. With articles spanning music, clothes, film, scooters, and books, it’s a modernist’s bible in quarterly form. Artists like @jalen_ngonda sit alongside sartorial beacons like @johnsimons1955 and Brighton’s best dressed man, @davidrose11 . The late great bassist Danny Thompson sits in the rhythm section next to drummer Steve White @whiteydrums top five tub thumpers. A brilliant read from cover to cover, like its guest editor, Detail is ageing like a fine wine. Claire, you should be very proud of what you’ve achieved, and what the magazine has become. I look forward to issue twenty one.

“Clothes aren’t going to change the world. The women who wear them will.” So goes the quote from designer Anne Klein which rolls in the final scenes of the film @fashionreimagined - It follows the journey of fashion designer @amy_powney who after winning an industry award embarks on making her luxury clothing line @motherofpearl a fully sustainable fashion brand. Raised by environmental activist parents and growing up on a caravan off grid, Amy grows up to be a pioneer and instigator of positive change in a globally destructive industry. It’s an inspirational story of a woman finding her purpose, of perseverance against adversity and the power of individuals to make a difference. It’s a must see for anyone who is interested in sustainable fashion or just fashion. There was eye opening facts about how the supply chain that serves the industry works even for a well informed sustainable fashionista like me. . On Tuesday night I met up with the lovely @fayhallam for the first time in what had now post pandemic clocked up to be years. We went to see the film at the @ritzy_cinema in Brixton where there was a special Q&A session with the director. We even had the Uruguayan ambassador make it known he was in the audience praising the film! Spoiler alert: Uruguayan sheep play a starring role in providing a source of sustainable wool in the film! . Yesterday was #internationalwomensday and there were many posts reflecting on the inequality of how women are treated by the fashion industry particularly garment workers. The film touches on this as a driver of Amy’s quest to get full transparency on her supply chain. I left with the hope that women can also be part of the solution, whether like Amy as leaders in business and demanding better industry practices but also as consumers in who we choose to buy from and how we choose to enjoy fashion. Buying #preloved as well as less were both touted as strategies in the film as many of us here in the Instagram community have advocated for. . If you get a chance do go and see this film! . #fashionreimagined #sustainablefashion #sustainablefashionista #slowfashion #slowfashionmovement #slowfashionstyle
