27,000 shoots. And a lot of hope. 🌱

After a week working alongside scientists, divers and volunteers in Casco Bay, we wrapped up this stage of the Seeds of Hope restoration effort with 27,000 reproductive eelgrass shoots collected.

Those shoots carry the seeds that will eventually make their way back into the bay — helping rebuild meadows that provide habitat, stabilize shorelines, improve water quality and support life throughout the coastal ecosystem.

What stayed with me most, though, wasn’t the number.

It was the people.

Scientists, scientific divers, volunteers and community members working side by side, learning from one another and getting their hands — and wetsuits — dirty for a living ecosystem.

Restoration is about rebuilding ecological relationships. But I’m increasingly convinced it is also about rebuilding our own relationship with the places we are trying to protect.

We only protect what we learn to connect with.

Y hay personas que han dedicado toda una vida a comprender, explorar y proteger el océano.

Hoy tenemos el honor de presentar a Federico Bellone, una incorporación de lujo para la familia Freedive Gravedad Cero y nuestro nuevo Instructor FGC Internacional, certificado en Miami.

Federico es un atleta de alto nivel, capaz de superar los 6 minutos de apnea y descender a más de 50 metros de profundidad. Pero su verdadera fortaleza va mucho más allá del rendimiento deportivo. Científico ambiental, navegante profesional, conservacionista y apasionado pescador submarino, ha dedicado su vida a conectar a las personas con el mar.

Dentro de FGC, su especialidad estará orientada a la pesca submarina, donde transmitirá no solo técnica y seguridad, sino también el respeto, la disciplina y la filosofía que caracterizan a nuestra escuela.

Bienvenido hermano FGC Federico. Es un orgullo contar con un profesional de tu nivel para seguir formando a la próxima generación de apneístas y pescadores submarinos.

Some people learn to freedive.

Others dedicate their entire lives to understanding, exploring, and protecting the ocean.

Today, we are honored to introduce Federico Bellone, an exceptional addition to the Freedive Gravedad Cero (FGC) family and our newest FGC International Instructor, certified in Miami.

Federico is a high-level athlete, capable of breath-holds exceeding 6 minutes and dives beyond 50 meters (165 ft). But his greatest strength goes far beyond athletic performance. As an environmental scientist, professional captain, conservationist, and passionate spearfisher, he has devoted his life to helping people build a deeper connection with the ocean.

At FGC, his instruction will be especially focused on spearfishing, where he will share not only advanced freediving techniques and safety, but also the respect, discipline, and philosophy that define our school.
