21.7.1964 - 22.6.2026. mah. mami. mum. aunty, susan, susie, salamah, zazinah to others, but mother to me. i had the fortune of growing up with 2 incredible mothers but this week i said goodbye to one from thousands of miles away. after surviving multiple strokes, my beautiful mami fell into a coma in mid April and never woke up. she took her last breath on Monday 22nd June 2026 in magelang, indonesia. - mah. your soul left this earth exactly one month before i was due to travel out to see you. i know aya told you i was coming. you couldn't wait for me, ah? Allah had made you different plans. i always thought i would have another 20 years with you. my naivety left me neglectful with capturing photos and videos during our recent time together. im despondent that i didn't take screenshots and record our last video calls together. it leaves me with the regret of not hugging you tighter when i said goodbye in march. the love i could not express to you in your final moments will haunt me for the rest of my life. what gives me peace is seeing how much love surrounded you in your final months as you lay comatose. how many people came to visit you, pray for you, recite Quran for you. every day your home was filled with laughter and love. even when you died, so many people came to pray for you as you were cleaned, laid to rest and buried. this leaves me with hope that you felt all the love i couldn't give, even though i could not be there for you when you needed me most. you leave a gaping hole in my heart and i know it will never be filled. rest well. by @fccsim

I was in Indonesia recently and was privileged to acquire an anthology featuring works on Palestine by Indonesian artist and author Danarto.
