Earlier last month, August 25-26. 2026, we were honored to have Professor Shu Hwa Lin serve as a keynote speaker at the International Consumer Congress in Taiwan, sharing her expertise and insights.

Although she has retired from her academic career, her voice and contributions to the field continue to resonate far beyond the classroom."

✨ Inspiring the next generation of fashion innovators! ✨

Pearl City High School students visited UH Mānoa’s Fashion Design & Merchandising program for a hands-on look at the world of fashion on September 11, 2026. From 3D fashion CAD (Dr. Kang), Aloha wear (Dr. Reilly) and storyboard development (Dr. McCarthy) to e-textiles (Dr. Adeleke) and digital retail (Dr. Lin) lessons and creative activities, students explored how technology and creativity come together in fashion and design. We are excited to continue inspiring the next generation of youth!

Our very own @stolesociety officers, Edward, Bingcheng, and Yana, took their skills beyond the classroom and participated in the Stepping into Style 30-Day Design Challenge at Capitol Modern!

From redesigning everyday Crocs and classic Chuck Taylors to elevating Jimmy Choo Romy 85 bridal heels, these students brought authentic island inspiration and high-level craftsmanship to the Miss Hawai'i Week pre-party. 🌺

Tuesday, July 14, 2026 | CTAHR: Talk with HS Counselors

Dr. McCarthy presented FDM program to eight counselors representing five high schools (Le Jardin Academy, Roosevelt HS, Kalani HS, Nānākuli HS, and Kanu o ka ‘Āina HS on the Island of Hawaii). Thank you so much, Dr. McCarthy, for representing FDM at this event during summer break. We greatly appreciated your time and effort in introducing our program. 😊

Wednesday, August 19, 2026 | NSO Day Event

A total of 23 new UH students participated in the NSO Day 1 event. While only 5-6 were FDM majors, the non-FDM majors very enthusiastic about learning about fashion. The @stolesociety introduced the student club, Dr. McCarthy hosted a Fashion & Storybaord Development workshop, and Dr. Kang led a two-hour Fashion CAD workshop with assistance from two FDM students, Eilliana and Yolene. Special mahalo to Drs. Kang and McCarthy for their dedicated contributions! We are also so grateful to Elliana, Yolene, and the Stole Society for their support. We successfully wrapped up the NSO workshop event in the AgSci 215 lab. 💻

17 incoming FDM students participated in the NSO Day 2 event. Dr.Kang presented an overview of the FDM program and curriculum. Dr. Lin shared her background, expertise, and course offerings. Elliana spoke about her experience in FDM. It was wonderful to introduce our program, new faculty, and student representative to incoming students. [FDM 339 3D Retail Store Design | Dr. Ju-Young Kang] Through the Lens of VR Headsets: Stepping Inside Student-Designed Retail Spaces:
This Spring semester, Dr. Kang integrated virtual reality (VR) headsets into the 3D retail store design curriculum. This immersive integration enabled students to export and navigate their 3D retail store models on VR hardware, refine VR system settings, and view their store models so realistically that they felt as though they were stepping into an actual retail store. It created a uniquely experiential learning environment.
