After months of preparation, Between Here & Infinity: Celebrating 30 Years of the Spelman Collection opens in full this evening.

Curated by Chaunesti Webb-Johnson, PhD, the exhibition marks 30 years of the Spelman Collection and brings together works that reflect the depth, history, and continued evolution of the collection.

Join us this evening for the opening reception with light bites and sounds by DJ Salah Anase — we’d love to celebrate with you.

And if you can’t make it tonight, come back Saturday, October 3 at 2 PM for a special guided tour with curator Chaunesti Webb-Johnson, PhD.

Its time! We have officially begun the installation of our newest exhibition “Between Here & Infinity: Celebrating 30 Years of the Spelman College Art Collection” premiering October 2.

As we prepare to open the second wave of the exhibition in the Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby, Ed.D. Academic Center; enjoy some behind the scenes footage of what it looks like to bring our dreams to life!

What a gift it was to unplug for a week from the demands of life, with my love and best collaborator in all things, @okcello, where we got to retreat in nature and sink into the beginnings of a new work together (!!!)

I feel like I’ve been singing the same song all my life. Since before I came here. And even when I didn’t understand the note I was trying to sing I was still reaching for it, you know?

Tonight I enter the desert again with more wisdom and insight and certainly with a whole lot more urgency. Seriously y’all, we gotta wake up and tap in. We must be our own savior. Let’s awaken our courage together ✨

I wasn’t sure I’d be returning to this piece, but it continues to speak to me—especially during this time of uncertainty and collapse.

This performance experience is my offering to a broader conversation, which I’m deeply invested in, around the Black radical imagination and the role of dreaming in the construction of new, more livable worlds.
