More than being a beautiful song, Can’t Help Falling in Love is special to me because it was a sweet part of the early days of courting my wife. This is the account of how a song I would stumble into while practicing would become an important part of our wedding and couple story. Link to stream in bio.

I’m cooking something up around the release of my cover of Can’t Help Falling In Love With You, and I want your love woven into it. Clips, photos, the moments that made you say yes. Old wedding footage, phone videos from a Tuesday night, the picture you keep on your nightstand. Send them my way.
Can’t Help Falling in Love — May 1st. Let’s build it together. 🤍

So excited to receive my new book, “Lil’ Okorie and the Magic Cello” by Kyri Demby, illustrated by Randy E. Gray II. This book is about this cool guy, @okcello and his wife @feathersinmypocket, that Darien and I met in London on our way home from Ireland a year ago. We met on the bus moving from one terminal to the other. What drew us to them was Okorie’s cello! Did you know when you fly with a cello you have to purchase a seat for it to sit in?!?!? Great people, great musician and sweet book about his start. Get your copy on Amazon! Thanks Okorie for making the world a happier place!

So grateful that I get to celebrate this amazing woman on her birthday. She has changed me in so many wonderful ways and I just love that I get a front row seat to the fullness of her life. Thank you for saying hi to me and allowing me to say hi back every morning of our lives.

Haven’t really been “outside” in a while. This was a beautiful occasion to take a step out and reconnect with old friends and Black queer Kin. I’m honored to be an inductee into the 40th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. College of Ministers & Laity, MLK Jr. Collegium of Scholars at Morehouse College. Thanks @qscholar36 ❤️🖤💚 #BlackQueerProf #BlackQueerKin

Posted @withregram • @spelmanmuseum People came out and felt such a deep and heartfelt connection to Nancy Elizabeth Prophet’s work and story. There’s something special that happens in the universe when someone receives their due.

Seasoned patrons remarked on how special the Spelman presentation felt, and students gathered around sculptures and asked poignant questions.

The weather was just right, the light was golden, and there was magic in the air last week during the opening for Nancy Elizabeth Prophet: I Will Not Bend an Inch. Here are some photos by the lovely @jyphoto

No matter how discouraging things get, don’t let anyone convince you that this is not your home. You may choose to live elsewhere; that is your right. You WILL have to protest, vote out, and oppose oppressive forces; it’s the necessary work of protecting your home. You will have to vigilantly keep that facts and truths of our history in the minds and mouths of our children; it is the only way we have ever maintained our culture and community. At times you may have to protect your life from the people whose job it is to protect you; this is how we have always outlived our aggressors. You may decide that all of this is too much work and you want to live somewhere easier. I wouldn’t disagree with your choice. In fact, I’d support it. There are other homes we can find/return to. But even so, our ancestors lived and died for this country. They liberated themselves from bondage and in so doing liberated the country from the tyranny of its own immoral short-sightedness. Our fathers and mothers fought for the ideals of this union, even when their reality was far from that aspiration. Our families, at every turn, held this country accountable to its published dreams, and in so doing made the notion of being American for all a possibility. So, this is our home - not “too,” or “also,” or “now,” but simply. We are among the first to sit in the mess that colonization made, and begin to make something decent, moral, and accountable of it. And, it has been paid for in our blood. So, if you gather today, but struggle to find something worth celebrating, focus not on this country’s origin or independence and the violence that ensued, but on the spirit of our ancestors who made this country a more perfect union with every brick they laid or tore down. The ending scene of this video, for me, contains many of the faces and lives that define what America is to me and for whom I labor to be of value. As long as they exist, I have something to celebrate! Thank you Langston Hughes and Nicole Hannah-Jones for the instructions on how to observe this holiday.
