First ever North East Comedy Hall of Fame announced
STAN LAUREL to be the third inductee.

North East Comedy Hall Of Fame
Tyne Theatre and Opera House
Newcastle Upon Tyne
10th September 2026

Following the announcement of the induction of Chris and Simon Donald of VIZ and the team behind the monolithic Sunday For Sammy events, we are so proud to announce the arrival of one of the greatest legends in the history of comedy to the North East Comedy Hall Of Fame.

Forever beloved for his work with Oliver Hardy, Stand Laurel was born in Ulverston in 1890 but his links to the North East are manifold. His father was from Bishop Auckland, where he later attended school and he lived with his grandmother in North Shields.

The love and respect in which he is held is marked with statues in both towns.

The event will see a number of one off comedy performances including a surprise one celebrating the works of Stan and Ollie on what is their 100th Anniversary.
The award, designed by comedian and sculptor Anja Atkinson, will be accepted by Mike Jones, who is the Grand Sheik of the Beau Chumps tent , the Sunderland tent of The Sons of the Desert, the international organisation devoted to the lives and work of Laurel and Hardy.

The show celebrates the outstanding individuals and achievements in the history of North East comedy at a raucous and entertaining red carpet celebration of the region’s entertainment heritage taking place this year at the Tyne Theatre and Opera House. The event - described as “Like the Oscars but if it was a laugh and nobody got slapped - will formally launch a permanent North East Comedy Hall of Fame, at a location to be announced.

Mike will accept this award at a glamorous gala event at the Tyne Theatre and Opera House on Thursday September 10th 2026.

The star-studded show– with five further special guests to be announced – will feature an evening of comedy and music celebrating the North East’s entertainment heritage. by @feltnowt

We were on the news!

Lee Kyle and Elaine Robertson played Connie Lewcock and Byker Lodge Care Homes last week and while it was nerve wracking, it was actually loads of fun and raised their spirits as much as the residents.

We are chuffed that this is looking like being a regular thing.

To support us in our community work, maybe chack our patreon? We even have exlusive chats with Lee and Elaine this week about these very gigs!

(Also, Elaine is at Tyne Theatre next Saturday, go see her amazing show, someof which is about when she worked in a care home) by @feltnowt
