There’s something magical about the Playa at night.

One moment, everything disappears into a dust storm. Then the dust slowly settles, the lights begin to emerge, and suddenly Black Rock City appears around you. 🌪️✨

And somewhere in the distance, the Man emerges through the dust.

Finally, our project made it to the Playa. 🥹✨
Glorious in the sunlight, mesmerizing at night.
After months of hard work, countless hours of 3D printing, CNCing, laser cuttin, and many days of assembling and disassembling, we finally made it.
Seeing it standing here feels surreal. ❤️

🎆✨ Happy New Year, everyone! 🎉

Using my Ender 3D Printer and LED, I did some light painting with long exposure photography. 📸💡

I programmed the printer’s G-code to move freely in X and Z without extruding, turning it into a mini light show!

No robot arm during the holidays? No problem! Sometimes, creativity comes from making the most of what you have. 😁

Hope you enjoy it and have an amazing year ahead! 🌟💫

Another year passed. I am marking my second year in San Francisco and the USA with a photo of the city's skyline and its landmarks. This past year also brought amazing experiences and lots of learning.

Excited to highlight the research of Ali Farajmandi @ferjii , a recent Master of Advanced Architectural Design in Digital Craft graduate from CCA @cca_arch_div, in collaboration with Professor Negar Kalantar @negarkalantar at Autodesk Technology Center in San Francisco as part of the DCL Academic Alliance with the Autodesk Technology Centers.
Ali’s project, “Parametric Biomimicry,” delves into the fascinating geometry of spiral seashells, transforming these natural forms into intricate 3D models using computational design in Grasshopper.
Inspired by the unique layering process of mollusks, Ali employed advanced robotic fabrication techniques to bring these shells to life.
The Research Journey:
* Initial Phase: Studied the geometry of spiral seashells and developed detailed 3D models. (slides 2, 3, 5)
* Robotic Light Visualization: Designed a compact LED spotlight tool for the robot, capturing its movements with long-exposure photography to create mesmerizing luminous patterns. (slides 1, 4, 6)
* Collaborative Robotic 3D Printing: Utilized a static printing nozzle with a moving bed, controlled by a 6-axis robotic arm, to replicate the geometry of the spiral seashells, showcasing the potential of non-planar 3D printing in architectural design. (slides 7, 8)
* Meeting Dr. Alain Goriely: Mathematician from Oxford University, whose research paper laid the foundation of this project. (slide 9)
* Presentation: Presented the project to the Autodesk and CCA community at Autodesk Technology Center (Pier 9). (slide 10)
This project highlights the potential of non-planar 3D printing in creating complex, scaffold-free structures that optimize efficiency and aesthetics.

As a symbol of my recent achievements, I used a robotic arm to create a birthday post

وقتی از تجربه های پروژه اخیر کار با ربات استفاده میکنی برای تولید پست مناسبتی!

بعد از بیست و پنج سالگی دیگه روز های تولدم برام نه تنها جذاب نبود بلکه تلخ بود... چون یادآور این بود که عمر داره میگذره ولی من نه پیشرفتی کردم... و نه آینده روشنی برای خودم میبینم.
اما دو تولد گذشته برام خیلی متفاوت بود.
اولین بارهایی بود که واقعا حسم خوب بود و از خودم راضی بودم.
احساس میکردم دست آوردهای داشتم که باعث بشه بدونم سال گذشته هدر نرفته
توی سال سی و سوم زندگیم از دانشگاه های خوب پذیرش گرفتم، نرم افزار های جدید یاد گرفتم، چند شهر بزرگ دنیا و یه سری اثر معماری و هنری معروفی که دوست داشتم رو دیدم، یه ترم خوب تو دانشگاه داشتم و در نهایت به واسطه آشنایی با نگار کلانتر برای همکاری تو یه پروژه ریسرچ به مرکز تکنولوژی اتودسک راه پیدا کردم.
سال بعد ارشد دومم رو گرفتم پروژه های جذاب توی دانشگاه و اتودسک داشتم، روش های متفاوت پرینت سه بعدی رو کار کردم، کار با ربات رو یاد گرفتم و در آخرین روز سی و سه سالگیم نتیجه تلاش‌هامون در مورد تکنیک جدید پرینت با ربات رو دیدیم!

هنوز کلی چیز برای یاد گرفتن هست و خیلی کارها باید کرد! اما همین دو سال نشون میده تو مسیر درستم و امیدوارم بتونم همین رو ادامه بدم.
دو سال پیش ترس اینو داشتم شاید انتخابم اشتباه باشه! ولی یه چیزو تکرار میکردم که اگه انتخاب اشتباهی باشه برمیگردم و سعی میکنم جور دیگه ای زندگیم رو بسازم! حداقلش اینه که ده سال بعد پشیمون نمیشم که چرا وقتی میتونستم توی سی و دو سالگی برم، نرفتم! خوشحالم که این ریسک رو کردم و از همه ی اونایی که کمکم کردن تو این مسیر بی اندازه ممنونم! از خونواده گرفته تا دوستان و در نهایت استادهام.
امیدوارم شرایطش براتون پیش بیاد که بتونین تغییر لازم رو ایجاد کنید! و اگه دارین نذارین دیر بشه و پشیمون شین.

After turning 25, birthdays felt bitter as I couldn't see any progress, but the past two have been different. In my 33rd year, I migrated, learned new software, traveled, and was invited by Negar Kalantar to collaborate on a research project at the Autodesk Technology Center. In the following year, I graduated, mastered 3D printing, worked with robots, and tested innovative projects. I'm truly grateful for the support of my family, friends, and professors

Today, exactly one year has passed since I came to this city and, of course, this country. I have gained many new experiences and learned many new things. I have visited some special and exciting locations, and I know this is just the beginning of exploring many more thrilling and new places!

امروز دقیقا یک سال میشه که اومدم این شهر و البته این کشور.
کلی تجربه جدید کسب کردم و کلی چیز جدید یاد گرفتم ... یه سری لوکیشن خاص و هیجان‌انگیز رفتم و میدونم که این اول راهه برای رفتن به کلی جای هیجان‌انگیز و جدید دیگه!

من دلایل و هدف‌هایی برای مهاجرت داشتم که هنوز به اکثرشون نرسیدم، اما اتفاق‌هایی برام افتاد و تجربه هایی کردم که اصلا فکرش رو هم نمیکردم.
غیر قابل پیشبینی ترینش تجربه جذاب تحصیل اینور بود!
بعد سالها درس خوندن تو ایران فکر میکردم توان درس خوندن بیشتر ندارم! اما تفاوت تحصیل اینور و امکاناتی که دانشگاه به دانشجو ها میده شرایط رو بسیار متفاوت میکنه.
البته هیچوقت نمیشه منکر سختی های پروسه مهاجرت شد. و به شخصه اگه حمایت و کمک خونواده و دوستانم رو نداشتم احتمالا خیلی سخت‌تر هم میشد برام. اما خیلیا رو میبینم که با همه سختیاش و حمایت کم مهاجرت میکنن. و امیدوارم این تجربه برای شما هم اتفاق بیفته. اگه هم راهنمایی یا کمکی از دستم بر میاد خوشحال میشم بگین.

Since exactly 2 weeks ago I've been in a new stage of my life. After being in Dubai for more than a year, I've come to this country now.
There are lots to explore and lots to share.
And yet there are lots of photos from before which i haven't shared ... I'll try my best to put old photos later as well.

اول یه مسیر جدید تو زندگیم هستم.... تو همین دقیقا دو هفته ای که اومدم اینجا خیلی تجربه جدید کسب کردم و کلی لوکیشن رفتم که قبلا توی سایت ها و کتابهای معماری میدیدم.
کلی عکس هست که باید به مرور به اشتراک بذارم و کلی عکس هم هست که از قبل به اشتراک نذاشتم.
