Fermynwoods Alternative Provision students recently worked with artist Jack Halford at East Carlton Country Park, to learn about and exploring framing and presentation can transform the way an artwork is received.

Using work they had created over the previous weeks, the students learned about how best to display work, before turning to making their own frames. The results were outstanding - each frame thoughtfully complemented the artwork while becoming a creative piece in its own right.... a brilliant session to enhance the skills that they are gaining.

A brilliant final stage in bringing the students’ work together and preparing it to be proudly presented!

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Kettering Arts Centre for a screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing.

More than 120 people came together to learn, reflect and discuss the climate and nature crisis, what it means for Kettering, and how we can build a more resilient future through collective action.

The event was organised by Dr Siobhan Currie in partnership with Kettering Town Council and formed part of a growing movement of more than 4,500 community briefings taking place across the country.

Following the film, we heard from Natural Ise, Kettering Huxloe Rotary Club, Kettering Nature Group, Brightwayz, Fermynwoods Contemporary Art and the Wildlife Trust about the positive work already happening locally and how people can become involved.

The discussions explored ways to protect nature, strengthen community resilience and take meaningful action—individually and together. More than 60 people also completed postcards to Kettering MP Rosie Wrighting, sharing their concerns about the climate and nature crisis.

Thank you to everyone who stayed to share their thoughts, listen to others and consider what they might do next.

The conversation continues with a follow-up drop-in meeting at Kino Lounge, Market Place, Kettering, on Wednesday 14 October, from 7pm to 9pm.

There will also be another screening of the People’s Emergency Briefing at Desborough Community Library on Wednesday 21 October, from 7pm to 9pm. Free tickets are available at https://www.tickettailor.com/events/strongerasone/2411311

Many thanks to Neil Fedorowycz for the photographs.

Artist Geoff Diego Litherland recently joined Fermynwoods Contemporary Art’s Alternative Provision students at East Carlton Country Park for a creative exploration of shibori.

The students experimented with folding, binding and colour to discover how different patterns could be created across fabric. Lots of initial testing allowed them to explore the possibilities, refine their ideas and choose the effects they wanted to achieve on their finished T-shirts.

Each young person then applied their chosen techniques to transform a T-shirt into a unique artwork to take home.

It was a brilliant opportunity to work intuitively, embrace the element of surprise and see how the shibori process produced a different result every time.

A huge thank you to Geoff and to all the students for their creativity and enthusiasm!

We’re delighted to share that Fermynwoods Contemporary Art and 100Green have been shortlisted for the 2026 Achates Philanthropy Prize Corporate Award!

We’ve been a 100Green customer for many years, drawn together by shared environmental values. Last year that relationship developed into something new when we approached them about supporting Tipping Point by Luke Jerram – our immersive simulated forest fire in Corby’s Hazel and Thoroughsale Woods.

Tipping Point, followed by What’s Eating Our Reality by Maya Chowdhry, explored the climate emergency in very different ways. Both were made possible through a wider funding partnership, with major support from Northamptonshire Community Foundation’s Northamptonshire Creative Climate Action Fund, alongside 100Green.

For us, creative climate action isn’t only about raising awareness. We want powerful artistic experiences to open conversations about what happens next and connect people with practical ways to respond. Alongside Tipping Point we signposted audiences to actions they could take, including reconsidering where their household energy comes from. This made our relationship with 100Green – the UK’s only 100% green gas and electricity supplier – particularly meaningful.

The shortlist recognises a supplier-customer relationship growing into a philanthropic partnership, with 100Green continuing to support where our work and values meet. We’re thrilled to be one of just six partnerships shortlisted across the UK.

Colchester Mercury Theatre & the GreyFriars Hotel, Colchester
Eden Court Highlands & Highland Broadband
Fermynwoods Contemporary Art & 100Green
Luca Silvistrini’s Protein Dance & Lux Electrical Solutions
Metropolitan Arts Centre (The MAC) & fonaCAB
Z-arts & Greenmount Projects

A huge thanks to 100Green and everyone who helped make this work possible. The winner will be announced at Southbank Centre on 18 November.
