The Sarau comes from many places…

I had theatre, family stories, migration, mistakes, friends, curiosity. And the urge to swim against the tide.

The Sarau grew from this impulse: not just to wait for an opportunity, but to create a space where we can meet, experiment, and build together.

A few thoughts on practice, process, and what I’ve learned along the way.

Be hunger, stay together with your community or build one together, feed the relationships you can have with other artists and fellows and dare to use your background in your favor.

I hope we can find each other along the way.

The Sarau in Cambridge.

Delighted to share this moment with Yusuke Kuriki (@yusukekuriki.art ), a fellow artist and long-time collaborator who has been part of The Sarau journey across editions in Tokyo and Amsterdam.

From creating together to now sharing a conversation in Cambridge, I feel deeply grateful and proud of everything we’ve built, experienced, and learned along the way.

Way Back Home is an interactive and immersive installation performance that explores the histories of families shaped by migration in the context of world conflicts and natural disasters. Through the integration of AI, the work invites reflection on time, space, and lineage.
Engaging participatory elements guide the audience into a deeply immersive state, where personal and collective memories intersect.
The space is conceived as a terminal, an environment of constant transition, evoking a site of passage, displacement, and return.

「Way Back Home」は、インタラクティブかつ没入型のインスタレーション・パフォーマンス作品です。
本作は、戦争や自然災害といった歴史的背景の中で形成されてきた移民家族の記憶や物語を探求し、AIの導入を通じて、時間・空間・そして系譜についての思索を促します。

観客参加型の要素により、鑑賞者は深い没入状態へと導かれ、個人的記憶と集合的記憶が交差する体験を生み出します。

空間は「ターミナル」として構想されており、絶えず変化し続ける環境の中で、通過・移動・帰還といった概念を想起させます。

「ウェイ・バック・ホーム」は、アーティストであるフェルナンド・カゲが主導する、
インタラクティブで没入型のインスタレーション・パフォーマンスです。
本作は、移住によって形づくられた家族の歴史を考察し、AIを通して時間・空間・血統についての省察を促します。

参加型の要素を通じて、本展は観客を没入状態へと導きます。
会場空間はターミナルの雰囲気を想起させ、通過と移行が絶えず起こる、変化し続ける重要な場を表現しています。

My visual work “In Transit” will be exhibited at @cleargallerytokyo as part of the exhibition “Way Back Home”, an interactive, immersive installation-performance led by @fernandokague and @alysssssssssssssssssa, exploring family histories shaped by migration.

Opening tomorrow (March 1st) at 17:30, with a live performance at 18:30. Come hangout!! 💿

The exhibition runs through March 7th, with extra performances on the final day at 13:30 and 17:00.
