POSTS STORIES REELS

Hi, I’m Charlotte. The designer behind Fernwood Interiors.

If you’re new here, I thought it was probably time I introduced myself.

I’ve been designing homes for more than 15 years, beginning in Michigan, then Chicago, and now South Carolina. After taking some time away from the industry to raise my three children, I found my way back to the work I’ve always loved, and Fernwood Interiors was born.

My favorite projects are the ones where we get to think through all of it: how your family gathers, where the shoes inevitably land, how a kitchen needs to function on a Tuesday morning, which details are worth investing in, and how to create something that will still feel like you ten years from now.

My style leans timeless, classic, layered, and collected rather than trendy. I love old houses, architectural details, beautiful millwork, natural materials, and the challenge of blending the character of the past with the way families live today.

When I’m not working, you’ll find me reading, obsessing over houseplants, working on our own fixer-upper, or doing something with my three kids.

I’m so glad you’re here. Thanks for following along with Fernwood Interiors. 🌿

I am so honored to be partnering with Barnraiser Construction on this beautiful Tudor-inspired new build. I was thankful to be brought onto the project early enough to be involved in the architectural plan review, so I was able to change the layout of the kitchen and windows and create a design where the range is the true focal point of the room with windows on either side.
This is my first official project since launching Fernwood Interiors, and this kitchen is where it all begins. Swipe to see the vision, the plan, and where it stands today. 🏡

When your mom’s jobsite has great acoustics and plenty of room to dance! PS. The end is my favorite part❤️ by @fernwood_interiors

17 years later, and back at High Point Market! 🤍

The last time I attended Market was the year I graduated from design school, so returning all these years later as the owner of my own design business felt pretty special.

What an incredible couple of days filled with inspiration and learning. And getting to experience it all with Jessica made it that much better!

Already looking forward to the next one! 🤍 by @fernwood_interiors

Jackson on the Jobsite 🐾

Every jobsite needs a good supervisor, and apparently our cat Jackson has volunteered for the position.

Since we live next door, he’s become quite the regular around here. We’ll drive by and find him lounging on the cinder blocks, napping on the porch, or wandering through the house like he owns the place.

And when I head over to check on progress? He usually tags along. Although I’m pretty sure his inspections involve a lot more napping than mine. 😂

We’re still waiting on his official report, but he seems pleased with the progress. by @fernwood_interiors

One of my favorite transformations in our own home.

This corner used to be a secondary sink and cabinet run that we really didn’t need. We removed it, enlarged the window, and turned the space into a built-in breakfast nook with storage, beautiful paneling, a display ledge for plants and art, and seating around the windows. Our family gathers here constantly and I’m so happy with how it turned out.

Swipe to see where we started.

Two years ago, Helene dropped a tree straight across our deck.

We had already torn down the original rotting deck and built a new one that we loved and used constantly, and then in an instant we were starting over again.

The storm took the deck and screened porch, but it also took so many of the trees that made our backyard feel private and shaded. So when we rebuilt, we added the pergola and planted vines with the hope that we’d get some of that feeling back.

Two years later, and the vines are climbing, the string lights are glowing, and this has somehow become an even cozier version of the space we lost. by @fernwood_interiors

A little Fernwood milestone 🤍

My first yard sign is officially up, right between my first two new construction projects!

There’s something pretty surreal about seeing my name out here on a jobsite after spending so much time behind the scenes drawing, sourcing, and planning.

So excited to watch these homes come together, and very grateful that this is what I get to do. 🌿

Ran to the jobsite for a few measurements and ended up going thru an obstacle course😅

Interior design starts long before it’s time to decorate.

Some of the most important design decisions are made while a home is still studs and subfloor.

Many details may come down to a matter of inches, but those inches can make the difference between a space that feels off and one that feels thoughtfully designed.

That’s why bringing your designer in early matters. I’m not just selecting the pretty things that go into a home. I’m helping determine where things go, how they fit, and how everything comes together.

If you’re building or renovating, don’t wait until it’s time to choose finishes to bring your designer on board.
