🌾 Tyisha
📍 Coleg Sir Gâr, Carmarthen
📅 Public Preview: Thursday 15 October

Project by Huw Alden Davies, curated by Kathryn Campbell Dodd.

What happens when history becomes something we can collectively remember, remake and reimagine?

Tyisha is a collaborative arts project rooted in Tumble and the wider Gwendraeth Valley. Bringing artists, students and local communities together, it explores history, place, identity and belonging.

At its heart is the story of Jac Ty-isha (Jack Hughes), a significant figure in the Rebecca Riots. In 1843, he was arrested and exiled to Tasmania following an attempt to demolish the Bolgoed toll gate. He never returned to Wales.

Through photography, film, performance and creative technologies, Tyisha revisits this history through a contemporary lens. A community procession through the landscape connected to Jac Ty-isha’s life becomes a living artwork — a shared act of walking, remembering and making.

🗓️ Open from 05 - 31 October 2026
📍 Coleg Sir Gâr, Jobs Well Road, Carmarthen, SA31 3HY

🌾 Tyisha
📍 Coleg Sir Gâr, Caerfyrddin
📅 Rhagolwg Cyhoeddus: Dydd Iau 15 Hydref

Prosiect gan Huw Alden Davies, wedi’i guradu gan Kathryn Campbell Dodd

Beth sy’n digwydd pan fydd hanes yn rhywbeth y gallwn ei gofio, ei ail-lunio a’i ail-ddychmygu gyda’n gilydd?

Mae Tyisha yn brosiect celf cydweithredol sydd â’i wreiddiau yn Nhal-y-bont a Dyffryn Gwendraeth ehangach. Mae’n dod ag artistiaid, myfyrwyr a chymunedau lleol ynghyd i archwilio hanes, lle, hunaniaeth a pherthyn.

Wrth wraidd y prosiect mae stori Jac Ty-isha (Jack Hughes), ffigwr arwyddocaol yn Nherfysgoedd Beca. Ym 1843, cafodd ei arestio a’i alltudio i Tasmania yn dilyn ymgais i ddymchwel tollborth Bolgoed. Ni ddychwelodd erioed i Gymru.

Drwy ffotograffiaeth, ffilm, perfformio a thechnolegau creadigol, mae Tyisha yn ailedrych ar yr hanes hwn drwy lens gyfoes. Daw gorymdaith gymunedol drwy’r dirwedd yn waith celf byw — gweithred ar y cyd o gerdded, cofio a chreu.

🗓️ Ar agor tan 31 Hydref 2026

“As an LGBTQ+ person at the BBC, I now feel able to bring my whole self to work, and I feel very lucky to do so”

Pink Portraits is such a joyful celebration of identity, and I’m incredibly proud to be part of it. I’ve always admired the work of Iris, and as an LGBTQ+ person at the BBC, I now feel able to bring my whole self to work, and I feel very lucky to do so. If these portraits help even one person feel a little more confident, more represented or more proud of who they are, then that’s something really worth celebrating.

“BBC Cymru Wales is a mosaic of people with many different talents and backgrounds”

It’s been fun to take part in the Pink Portraits project on the 20th anniversary of the Iris Prize. BBC Cymru Wales is a mosaic of people with many different talents and backgrounds who work hard to bring good programming to audiences and it’s great to see some of them celebrated in these portraits.

1973-2026

“I hope that if there’s still any image left of the BBC as this sort of crusty, formal place that might have those old-fashioned attitudes, I sincerely hope that this opens people’s eyes to the fact that the BBC is not like that”

I’ve really enjoyed the process. I was a bit surprised about the idea of it being done, and flattered to be asked.

I think that there’s a lot of questions still, even in 2026, about LGBT representation at various stages of things. And sometimes things can feel a little bit tokenistic, but this doesn’t. I must admit I was slightly wary, but this doesn’t feel like that at all. Back in the day it was my first job moving into the professional world, and I was kind of braced to maybe have to hide things about myself or to play things down because of prejudices. In actual fact, it was completely different to that. My experience from day one is that I’ve been respected all the way along for my skills and my abilities. I never, ever felt that anything to do with LGBT has ever been an issue.

I think a lot of people are quite surprised when they start working for the BBC because of what they expect it to be like, and then how it actually is. Do the job right, do it well, and that’s what matters. How you represent yourself p by @ffotogallery

🖼️ Gemma Pepper: The Quiet Locus

📍 Theatr Clwyd, Mold
📅 Public Preview: Friday 9 October, 6–8pm

What happens when photographs are removed from their original contexts?

The Quiet Locus explores displacement through vernacular photographs removed from their original contexts and placed into unstable environments — submerged in water, partially buried beneath stones, overtaken by organic matter, or interrupted by insects.

Through these encounters, images become permeable and contingent. Faces blur, surfaces dissolve, and details are obscured or revealed through shifting material conditions.

Rather than illustrating displacement, the work enacts it, allowing time, environment and chance to act as collaborators.

The work explores how photographs migrate across contexts, accumulate and lose meaning, and resist stable interpretation.

Open until 2 November 2026

🖼️ Gemma Pepper: The Quiet Locus

📍 Theatr Clwyd, Yr Wyddgrug
📅 Rhagolwg Cyhoeddus: Dydd Gwener 9 Hydref, 6–8pm
Beth sy’n digwydd pan gaiff ffotograffau eu tynnu o’u cyd-destunau gwreiddiol?

Mae The Quiet Locus yn archwilio dadleoliad drwy ffotograffau poblogaidd a dynnwyd o’u cyd-destunau gwreiddiol a’u gosod mewn amgylcheddau ansefydlog — wedi’u boddi mewn dŵr, eu claddu’n rhannol o dan gerrig, eu gorchuddio gan ddeunydd organig, neu eu torri ar draws gan bryfed.

Drwy’r cyfarfyddiadau hyn, mae delweddau’n dod yn athraidd ac amodol. Mae wynebau’n pylu, mae arwynebau’n toddi, ac mae manylion yn cael eu cuddio neu eu datgelu wrth i’r amodau materol newid.

Yn hytrach na darlunio dadleoliad, mae’r gwaith yn ei weithredu, gan ganiatáu i amser, yr amgylchedd a siawns weithredu fel cydweithredwyr.

Mae’r gwaith yn archwilio sut mae ffotograffau’n symud rhwng cyd-destunau, yn cronni ac yn colli ystyr, ac yn gwrthsefyll dehongliad sefydlog.

🌿 Mark Griffiths: An Incremental Demise

📍 The Welfare, Ystradgynlais
📅 Public Preview: Tuesday 6 October, 6–8pm

What is lost when the places that shape our lives disappear?

Land carries memory. It holds the stories of the people who’ve lived, worked, gathered and grieved upon it. An Incremental Demise examines the choices we face about land use today through personal stories, scientific evidence, community protest and a hopeful warning for the future.

The exhibition explores the quiet erosion of precious green spaces, what’s lost when these places disappear and why they matter, alongside the growing importance of brownfield regeneration and the potential for disused industrial land to become spaces for homes, public parks and ecological renewal.

Mark Griffiths is a freelance photographer based in South Wales whose work explores social, environmental, historical and political narratives.

🗓️ Open until 29 October 2026
📍 The Welfare, Brecon Road, Ystradgynlais, Swansea, SA9 1JJ

🌿 Mark Griffiths: An Incremental Demise

📍 The Welfare, Ystradgynlais
📅 Rhagolwg Cyhoeddus: Dydd Mawrth 6 Hydref, 6–8pm

Beth sy’n cael ei golli pan fydd y lleoedd sy’n llunio ein bywydau yn diflannu?

Mae tir yn cario atgofion. Mae’n dal straeon y bobl sydd wedi byw, gweithio, ymgasglu a galaru arno. Mae An Incremental Demise yn archwilio’r dewisiadau sy’n ein hwynebu ynghylch defnydd tir heddiw drwy straeon personol, tystiolaeth wyddonol, protest gymunedol a rhybudd gobeithiol ar gyfer y dyfodol.

Mae’r arddangosfa’n ystyried erydiad mannau gwyrdd gwerthfawr, yr hyn a gollir pan fyddant yn diflannu a pham eu bod yn bwysig, ochr yn ochr â phwysigrwydd cynyddol adfywio tir llwyd.

🗂️ Bindi Vora: Silence in the Dream of a Language That Cannot Hold Us

📍 Chapter Caffi Bar, Cardiff
📅 Public Preview: Saturday 3 October, 12–1pm

Silence in the Dream of a Language That Cannot Hold Us is a newly commissioned work by Bindi Vora (@bindi_vora) for Chapter Arts Center, Ffotogallery and Ffoto Cymru 2026.

1972 marks a political rupture within Vora’s family history. Around 90,000 South Asians were forced to leave Uganda. At the centre of the work is a press photograph first published in the East African Standard that year, showing a South Asian woman being directed towards a bus by Ugandan army officers.

Circular images cut across the photograph, bringing material held within South Asian lives into contact with an image produced for public circulation. Installed within Chapter’s Caffi Bar, the work returns these images to a shared public space.

📅 Open until 3 January 2027

📍 Chapter Caffi Bar, Caerdydd
📅 Rhagolwg Cyhoeddus: Dydd Sadwrn 3 Hydref, 12–1pm

Mae Silence in the Dream of a Language That Cannot Hold Us yn waith newydd a gomisiynwyd gan Bindi Vora ar gyfer Chapter Arts Center, Ffotogallery a Ffoto Cymru 2026.

Mae 1972 yn nodi rhwyg gwleidyddol yn hanes teuluol Vora. Gorfodwyd tua 90,000 o Dde Asiaid i adael Uganda. Wrth wraidd y gwaith mae ffotograff o’r wasg a gyhoeddwyd gyntaf yn yr East African Standard y flwyddyn honno, yn dangos menyw o Dde Asia yn cael ei chyfeirio tuag at fws gan swyddogion byddin Uganda.

Mae delweddau cylchol yn torri ar draws y ffotograff, gan ddod â deunydd a gedwir ym mywydau pobl o Dde Asia i gysylltiad â delwedd a gynhyrchwyd i’w chylchredeg yn gyhoeddus. Wedi’i osod yng Nghaffi Bar Chapter, mae’r gwaith yn dychwelyd y delweddau hyn i ofod cyhoeddus a rennir.

🌊 Katel Delia: The Last Breath
📍 Ffotogallery Project Space, Cardiff

📅 Festival Launch & Public Preview: Thursday 1 October, 6–8pm

Katel Delia (@artkatelia) presents an immersive installation, built specifically for the Project Space, transforming the whole room into a surreal environment.

The subject explored is migration within the Mediterranean and the sad and alarming situation that many have become too comfortable with.

Using light, sound and visuals, Delia transports the viewer to another place, where the experience of the observer becomes a homage to the many migrants who lose their lives while searching for a better one. The installation offers different levels of interpretation and legibility, from the idyllic to the shocking reality.

The Last Breath opens as part of the Ffoto Cymru 2026 festival launch at Ffotogallery on Thursday 1 October.

🗓️ Open until 12 December
📍 Ffotogallery, Fanny Street, Cardiff, CF24 4EH

🌊 Katel Delia: The Last Breath

📍 Ffotogallery Project Space, Caerdydd
📅 Lansiad yr Ŵyl a Rhagolwg Cyhoeddus: Dydd Iau 1 Hydref, 6–8pm

Mae Katel Delia yn cyflwyno gosodiad trochi, a grëwyd yn benodol ar gyfer y Project Space, gan drawsnewid yr ystafell gyfan yn ofod swreal.

Mae’r gwaith yn archwilio mudo ym Môr y Canoldir a’r sefyllfa drist a brawychus y mae llawer wedi dod yn rhy gyfforddus â hi.

Gan ddefnyddio golau, sain a delweddau, mae Delia yn cludo’r gwyliwr i le arall, lle mae profiad yr arsylwr yn deyrnged i’r nifer o ymfudwyr sy’n colli eu bywydau wrth chwilio am fywyd gwell. Mae’r gosodiad yn cynnig gwahanol lefelau o ddehongliad a darllenadwyedd, o’r delfrydol i’r realiti brawychus.
