I am incredibly honored to announce that I have received the 2026 HRH Prince Alvaro de Orléans-Borbon Grant, Grand Prix de l’Innovation Aéronautique, from FAI President Mr. Greg Principato and Don Alvaro-Jaime de Orléans-Borbón on the International Day of Air Sports in Lausanne yesterday.

When we started this journey, the idea seemed a little crazy: take one of the most demanding and beautiful sports in aviation, and open it to everyone. No airfield needed. No trailer, no winch, no perfect weather. Just skill, judgment and a love of flying. Today, simulated gliding has evolved into an air sports discipline in its own right. Pilots from every continent are competing in FAI-sanctioned events. Young people who have never touched a real glider are learning to read the sky. And for the first time, gliding is knocking on the door of the Olympic movement through our bid for the Olympic Esports Games.

Until now, Virtual Gliding has lived entirely online. With the incredible support of this grant, we are taking a historic next step by bringing it into the real world with our first live, on-site event. We will have pilots on stage, a crowd in the room, and the whole world watching; bringing virtual pilots and real pilots together under one roof.

None of this happened alone, and this award belongs just as much to the people who built this vision with me. I want to share my deepest gratitude with the brilliant team who worked tirelessly around Virtual Gliding to make this a reality: Sébastien Chaumontet, Jean-David Thoby, Timothée Barusseau, Marc Till, and Michel Bernard.

A very special thanks must also go to Uroš Bergant and Chris Wedgwood from Condor for their unconditional support from the very beginning.

Thank you to the FAI Executive Board for this honor and for believing that the future of air sports can also be digital, and to Peter Eriksen and the International Gliding Commission for opening that door years ago.

To continue growing, we must seize the opportunities ahead of us: whether that is through the Olympic Esports Games with Virtual Gliding or via the Sailplane Grand Prix, our F1 of the Skies. Thanks everyone for your support! 🙏 taken in Lausanne, Switzerland by @ffvolenplaneur

Le monde célèbre les sports aériens. Nous, on vole en planeur. ☀️

English :
The world celebrates air sports. We fly gliders. ☀️

Today, 14 October, is the very first International Day of Air Sports, launched by FAI, the World Air Sports Federation (@airsports.fai). So we're taking you up with us: we roll out the gliders, take off, climb up to the clouds… and break out above them.

No engine: just the sun, the wind and rising air. And a passion shared in clubs, with instructors and a whole team around you.

Want to give it a try? Gliding clubs all over France offer discovery flights in a glider.
