This past weekend, our Food Forest Coordinators and Campus Naturalists came together for a hands on training and potluck at the Food Forest! 🌻🥞

We shared information, swapped funny stories and enjoyed a delicious spread surrounded by the beauty of the food forest. Huge thanks to everyone who brought their knowledge and food to share! It was a great morning of community and connection! by @fgcufoodforest

This month the food forest worked with the Lee County Environmental Education team to get a hydroponics system up and running at the Food Forest! 🌾 ☀️💦Hydroponic towers are a great solution for anyone looking to grow quality produce in a limited space. This project will enable us to provide more veggies to the food pantry and anyone visiting the Food Forest. 🍅🥦
Shout out to Mark Celek for making this possible!!🌟 by @fgcufoodforest

Our first Living Lab workshop!! 🪴🌈

We are still over the moon about our first meeting! It was amazing to see so many FGCU students from various majors and academic backgrounds come together to get experience in one thing we all have in common— our interest in regenerative agriculture and ecological sustainability. 🌏🌱

Our workshop, “From Soil to Canopy: A Workshop in Agroforestry”, was led by FGCU’s own Dr. Jeannine Richards. Attendees learned about agroforestry in various climates ranging from tropical regions in South America to the midwest of the United States. Our vice president, Sam Sette, then gave a brief tour of the FGCU Food Forest to show students what our own agroforestry systems look like in action! Dr. Richards then led an activity which challenged us to work in groups to create agroforestry systems based on individualized scenarios.🌳☀️

Thank you to our officers for the hard work in organizing this event, and especially our new club members!! Seeing so many passionate students gives us hope to grow a more sustainable future at FGCU and beyond. If you couldn’t make it, no worries; Stay tuned for our next workshop and other updates by following us here @fgculivinglab , and joining our GroupMe (link in bio) 💚💙

📸 If you have pictures from the event and want to share them, send them to our DM or post and tag us using #GulfCoastLivingLab — we’d love to see your perspective!
