“Instead of the thorn bush will grow the juniper, and instead of briers the myrtle will grow.” — Isaiah 55:13

This used to be just grass.

It was even grass- it was sandy and gross.

Now it feeds our family, gives our kids a place to explore, and has become our sanctuary.

Less lawn. No chemicals. More fruit. More life.

We help homeowners from Tampa to Naples create edible landscapes and food forests of their own.

Thank you to everyone who came to our last workshop of the semester: “From Roots to Juice: Intersecting the Citrus Industry and Sustainable Agriculture” with Dr. Roka! 🍊

Dr. Roka led a discussion regarding the decline of Florida’s citrus industry, the complexities of citrus greening, and farmworker compensation. We look a walk through the Food Forest to identify FGCU’s own citrus trees and better explain the symptoms of citrus greening. 🌳

A HUGE thank you to all of YOU for attending our workshops this past semester!! We are so thrilled to see so many other eagles engaged in sustainable agriculture, soil health, and agroecology. Be on the lookout for Living Lab’s Spring 2026 workshop schedule! Our officers are hard at work behind the scenes and we cannot wait for another incredible semester of learning. 🌎🌱

Another great club meeting! 🪶
We were joined by Dr. Oscar Johnson, FGCU’s ornithologist, who shared how monoculture cropping impacts bird populations and why diverse systems like the FGCU Food Forest provide ideal habitats. We explored the different food sources available to birds within the Food Forest and the surrounding native forest, noticing how much variety and ecological balance matter.

Huge thank you to Dr. Johnson for guiding us through such an insightful evening, and to top it off, we spotted two Great-Horned Owls just as the meeting wrapped up! 🌿🦉✨
