Obstacle courses are more than just fun and games though, they help build the brain and body connection kids need to succeed both on the playground and in the classroom. 💡📚

When kids climb, balance, crawl, jump, and navigate challenges, they are developing:

✅ Coordination – learning how their body moves and reacts
✅ Balance & Core Strength – important for posture, sitting at a desk, and body control
✅ Focus & Attention – following steps and concentrating on tasks
✅ Problem-Solving Skills – figuring out how to complete obstacles builds confidence and critical thinking
✅ Motor Planning – helping the brain organize movement and actions smoothly

These physical activities activate different parts of the brain that support learning, reading, writing, and emotional regulation. Kids who move their bodies regularly often show improved concentration, listening skills, and readiness to learn in class. 🎯🧠

"What did you do today?"

Sound familiar? Many parents often ask this question at pick-up or during dinner time after a busy day at school.

Did you know that according to many child-development experts and Waldorf educators, this question is not considered developmentally appropriate to ask?

Here's why:
1. It's too vague for kids!
Children, especially younger ones, are not able to comprehend a broad, open question that requires summarizing hours of activities.
Their brain has to recall many events, decide what matters and summarize it quickly. It's too much of a loaded question!

2. The timing isn't great!
After hours of social interaction, learning and outdoor time, kids are often mentally exhausted. They often aren't able to reflect with what little they have left in their tank.

3. It encourages "surface level" replies!
The question invites evaluation, not storytelling. It's a question that doesn't naturally lead them to detailed events, like who they played with and why it was fun.

Parents: if you really want to know, try these questions instead!

$🍎🥧 Learning starts with their hands at Forest Hills. Our young bakers made a delicious French apple cake while learning that math isn’t just something found on a worksheet. Measuring ingredients brought fractions to life as they worked with halves, quarters, and everything in between.
