Well an invitation to 10 Downing Street was not on my bingo card for 2025… but here we are 🚀

I’ve joined the newly launched Small Business Growth Council which has been put together to spur innovation and growth in the UK ✨

It’s a 2 year tenure and we kicked off as we meant to go on… By working face to face with key players in Parliament. This was an opportunity to make our voices heard and we certainly did not shy away. (Shy? Me? Never!) 🤫

I have to say, entering 10 Downing Street and challenging the Prime Minister’s advisors 1-on-1 was a top highlight. But the entire 2 days has been the most wonderful whirlwind 🌪️

✅ Getting whisked around Westminster in these brilliant campaign wrapped cabs 🚕

✅ being welcomed by Intuit leaders to head up a discussion about AI and digital adoption with Secretary of State for trade and business. 💼

✅ A working lunch with Small Business Commissioner where we debated ways to solve the billion pound issue around late payments. 💰

✅ Meeting the other incredible 17 businesses that make up the council alongside @cocofinancial and @lime_hut_london . They come in all shapes, sizes and regions. And not only are they sharp, grafters, and embodiments of the backbone of the economy, they also happen to be a HOOT! 😆

Thanks to @intuit for the opportunity. This is an incredibly important initiative that aligns with my unwavering 6 year mission to make micro-businesses mighty. One thing we know for certain is that small business is NOT SO SMALL! 💪🏾 taken in 10 Downing Street by @fi_financial

Accountant. Founder. Changemaker. Meet @fi_financial

Next up in our series celebrating the UK accounting community is Fi, the accountant behind @cocofinancial. She's spent the last ten years working for herself and standing up for small businesses.

Fi got into accounting through a Deloitte internship at university, rotating through tax, consulting and audit. It took her to a few places she didn't expect, including offshore oil tankers in her early 20s, hard hat and high vis included.

A few of her milestones so far:

🏆 Ten years self-employed. Fi went out on her own in 2016 and has been betting on herself ever since.

🏆 An invite to 10 Downing Street to help make sure small business voices are heard.

🏆 Launching @meetfineo, her tech company that helps accountants support their micro business clients. It's now live in the UK and Ireland.

Next, she's carrying on with what she loves most: championing small businesses.

I had a whinge at government for lack of support for small businesses and was shocked to learn there was more support than I knew about! 100s of grants and schemes 💯 It DEFINITELY needs to go much further… but if you want to learn more about what’s available to UK businesses comment SMALL BIZ below 👇 ⬇️

I’ve loved digging into the newest tools and functions from Intuit QuickBooks lately 👀

At Accountex, I got the chance to spend time at the QuickBooks stand and see their latest AI tools in action and I’ve already jumped into using them and seeing a huge difference.

One feature I’m especially excited about is the Beta Client Insights tool 📊

Being able to spot anomalies, patterns, and trends across all clients in one place means I can deliver more relevant insights and have better conversations with clients backed by real data.

AI in accounting is giving us more time to do my favourite part of my job - actual facetime with clients. IRL Face-time > screen-time! 🚀
