a fish dish 𓆝 𓆟 𓆞

⋆⭒𓆟⋆。˚𖦹𓆜✩⋆

Tonight, I dipped my meat into the belly of a fish that had never known water, only yuzu-seasoned soy sauce, and decided the world would be a happier place if more everyday objects were permitted the luxury of being gloriously unnecessary, such as this fish dish

It’s giving artsy couple goals. 🎨

Natalie Cheung and Darren Cheng, the creative forces behind @fieldpottery, turned a meet-cute moment at a party into a home-based pottery business inspired by nature. Among their offerings are objects referencing those found on deep sea explorations and lately, a ‘chairsboard’ adorned with rocks. 🪨

“Many of our pieces tread a fine line between function and form. We especially enjoy when people ask us what a particular piece is used for and we don’t really have an answer for them,” said Cheng about what’s unique about their practice.

“How long did you take to make the “chairs” board?”

Grogging, rolling, pounding, dipping, sliding, cutting, trimming, cleaning, peeling, tossing… etcetera etcetera.

So, a considerable amount of time. Everything here is shown in actual speed, i wanted to be real about the time it takes to create this piece.

I sometimes feel a little sad hearing of potters having to lower the prices of their work, just to make it feel more acceptable or attractive to the public. When really, it is often the human touch that makes something feel even more valuable, especially where objects carry traces of gesture, and the presence of the maker’s hand. In that sense, I’ve always felt that the imperfection of a crafted object BECOMES the beauty mark of something genuine and timeless and unreplicable 🤎 by @fieldpottery

𖠅𖭀 . 𖬹 𖣐 𖬹. 𖬽𖠆

Over the past two years, Santai has been a bit of everything all at once. our halloween takeover..regular nights that found their own rhythm, a growing music community and even a place that people somehow keep coming back to celebrate their birthdays 😂

𖡹there were also the in-between moments - things feeling uncertain, losing our music license for a while, figuring things out as we went. but still choosing to keep going, to keep the doors open in whatever way we could.

𖢏somewhere in between.. this space became what it is now.

𖢔for our birthday, we’re bringing together people who’ve been part of that journey and on 26th April, Sunday, we‘ll all be together once again 🥰
