On Working within the Living Room

The presence of the window in the study brings a sense of connection to the rest of the home, enabling anyone to feel integrated into their surroundings while focusing on tasks.

The decision to create a delineation while maintaining visual openness between the study and living areas results in a seamless blend of privacy and connectivity.

This connection to the rest of the living spaces serves as a subtle reminder of the home’s communal areas, enhancing the overall comfort and enjoyment of working from home.

Additionally, concealing work-related clutter within the study and behind the low wall preserves the spaciousness of the living room from the entrance door. This blend of functionality and aesthetics contributes to a comfortable and enjoyable home working environment ✨

In a household where shoes need to be taken off before entering, it always feels nice to have a dedicated sitting area to remove/put on your shoes, before you enter your home or to wipe your dog down from a dirty walk or sanitise (covid ptsd) before you enter your home.

This threshold was designed as a double-sided bookshelf that creates this exact space and acts as shield of the living room from the gaze of strangers at the gate. It means full ventilation and comfort for anyone lounging in the living room.

Process images: 2-4, showing the construction of the shelf that fit the original divisions of the ceiling battens coincidentally and perfectly.

Dear friends, since the beginning of our project @chruofficial, our mystical curator, and I have always had a clear goal in mind; to create an open space for collaborations of local creatives and crafts.

In the road towards building this, we have crossed paths with such bright lights in the creative industry and we are extremely glad to announce a takeover of our space by @kilnfolksg, the resident potter of @alter.nativesg.

@kilnfolksg functions both as a space for lessons as well as a production house for tableware. Lynn of @kilnfolksg is an OG ceramic artist with a keen and open mind for collaborations, so please feel free to DM her if you have any enquiries at all.

We hope to see you around the house sometime!

Can you believe it? Nitwick turns 2! 🎉 Every year, we celebrate by creating something special so you can own a piece of our story.

This small, exclusive eclectic collection of vessels is the personification of you and all the individuals that have supported us so far. All different and unique in their own way, each vessel is sourced from local potters, @fieldpottery, @dirtyhandsonly and @ubistudioofart

All candles in this collection feature our anniversary scent, Two and a half Cyclamen. 🌿 A fresh, green balsamic scent with floral undertones, this fragrance reminds us of simpler days playing football in the rain and climbing trees. Notes of cyclamen, violet leaf and cardamom blend together to create a familiar earthy warmth, perfect for a cloudy day with a chance of showers. ☔️

Last Day of Boutique’s Fair!

It’s been such an honour to collaborate with @boutiquefairssg this March to put up this amazing botanical installation at the Entrances of Scarlet & Blue Room to spruce up the space for the guests.

In line with our sustainable mission, we’ve also brought together a couple of other local sustainable brands to showcase that repurposed or recycled items doesn’t mean that they are secondhand, old and unpresentable. A huge thank you to our collaborating partners for working with us to bring my vision of this living space into reality!

Took my breath away. That’s what the second menu by Chef Desmond Shen (@dzzfizz) did. The rest of my group, all first-timers, were just as moved by his food.
In case you weren’t aware, @alter.nativesg is a space where art meets food. And for the current offering, Chef Desmond collaborated with local artist @p.udica, and long-term partner @fieldpottery. Their installation, entitled “Unexpected {something somethings}” which uses ceramics and botanical design to explore urban dereliction and the fleetingness of ugly-cute nature, alongside nature in general and culture, were what influenced his culinary creations.
From the first small bite, it felt like we had been dropped into the middle of a primeval forest, for it was a piece of wooden bark. This witty trompe l’oeil was actually a cunning crispy burdock root sandwiching burdock kerabu salad, a mole sauce made from kresik (a caramelised peanuts and tamarind paste) and toasted peanuts.
Then things got even better with the arrival of an impossibly delectable grown-in-Malaysia yellow passionfruit served with sweet mango and avocado - made smoulderingly sensuous by the fruity, smoky heat of habanero. Sealing the fruit, a lovely coconut foam. I wished so much for seconds.
Number three was based on a favourite childhood snack of Chef Desmond’s - the Muruku. Appearing in a never-before-seen articulation - a tart shell, the muruku’s fragrant hard crunchiness was unmistakable. It cradled cauliflower purée cooked in madras curry, lemon purée, fish garum caramel, pickled mustard seeds and crispy curry leaves.
The hefty prawn toast was birthed after the two artists Chef Desmond is working with, gave him the same answer - “the sea”, as their source of inspiration. The light, crunchy toast was spread with cooked prawn and Shiro Ebi marinated in sudachi. These were finished with tiny gluten-free amaranth seeds, coloured by the natural “dyes” of spirulina and a Hainan curry sauce.
The Pani Puri, a humble Indian street food, was elevated in Chef’s hands with fermented chickpea, fresh mint chutney and a date and tamarind jam filling the paper-thin crunchy bubble of fried dough.
