My world is broken and unrepairable. My light my heart outside of my body was ripped away tragically on Feb 23rd. My sweet miracle Mia Adalyn Preston was killed by a car in front of our house. Nothing makes sense. Nothing feels real. I am shattered. My family is in pieces shattered beyond repair. We lost our miracle. Our only daughter. The sweetest most beautiful loving happy girl. My best friend. My makeup loving baby girl who danced to her own songs, who said mommy I love you 10x a day. My fashionista. Our daddy’s girl. Her brothers best sister. Papas angel. The words. There will never be words enough to describe this awful tragedy nightmare of a life I have to live without her until the day I die. I know she’s touched so many with her miracle. With her beautiful face and her amazing spirit that I shared a snippet with. Those who truly knew her, knew she was special beyond word. She was too good for this world. I didn’t deserve such a beautiful and amazing little girl. After Mias drowning she would repeatedly say “mommy it’s dark outside” and now all I feel is it’s truly dark outside. I by @fiercelyalia

How many kids do you have?”

A question I hate answering because it all depends on the state of my heart. Do I feel like lying? Do I want to talk about her like she’s still here & pretend she’s almost 7? Do I want to explain she’s no longer here & then feel uncomfortable explaining why she’s not anymore?

I avoid it and try to never ask that question to others so it doesn’t come around to me.

A bereaved mother, that’s what I am now. And this year I have been mostly silent of the life I have had to live, surviving all the new emotions of finalizing year 2.

Grief is not a gift. I have come to realize that there is not a single lesson that could only be learned in Mias death, no experience that justifies her absence. I have gained only the ability to continue when all I have wanted was for this to all end. Strength id gladly give up for her instead.

wanting to leave my boys & husband behind. I want so badly to escape the daily torture of grief trampling its way into the forefront of my brain, trying to steal joy that I have had work so hard for.

I was waiting for a silver lining. A purpose that could help me find meaning in this. And thus far I have found those “things” we look for are mute. It’s just me.

I have to choose to either fight, with my hardest of heart. Or let the break in my heart shatter and unbind me from this earth. To see just 3 in a photo when there should be 4.

For now I look for her in the faces of her brothers, the laughter they give, the long lashes of her younger brother. The faint warmth of knowing she flows through each of us at unexpected times reminding us she’s still here. 🩷

I have 4 children. One is in paradise waiting for but a moment to be reunited with us. The only silver lining in this life right now is that I too will one day be free of this life & live forever with her. #griefandloss #childloss #bereavedmother by @fiercelyalia

Another year without people I love. My daughters last news years party was 2024, she died just 2 months later. Hardly into the new year. My dad had died just 24 days prior. It’s going to be 2 years in Feb since I got to last hug my sweet girl. This past year I have learned many many things. Been hurt by many many people, lost relationships, gained friendships, grew in ways I didn’t know. Also lot my self in ways I didnt expect. But I don’t really like resolutions, I don’t start things anew in January. I’ve learned to listen to what I need as it comes. I have blossomed that way better when I don’t force the expectations of what society requires as success. I’m still alive today. When people tell me “I don’t think I could survive child loss” what other choice do I have? I want to die, everyday to be united with my little girl who was supposed to grow up and be my best friend and share clothes and makeup and girl dinners with. But I have to live for her. For my boys, my husband. I cannot give up. It’s too easy. And that means it’s not worth it. Grace is the word of 2026. We all need it. We all can give it freely and we all require it to learn of our brother Jesus who gave the ultimate sacrifice. My faith is what has kept me afloat. But my yearning, fire, anger fueled determination to not be a victim. To make my daughter proud is how I will have to live forever. It’s not Happy New Years….. it’s hello another year, another day, another hour that I will continue 🩷 #childloss #grieving #grieivingwithhope by @fiercelyalia

G R I E F hits whenever it wants. Especially the build up to holidays. Today after letting out a lot from my heart in grief coaching, more things like to come out. Thinking about Mias upcoming 6th birthday when we barely got to celebrate her turning 4, I wonder what she would like. Would she be Glinda 💕 or Elphaba 💚obsessed? Would she be listening to “popular” in a pink dress with a new lipstick she stole from me, or into Barbie’s? The saddest part is not having a clue as our memories of a sweet 4 year old are frozen in time & we hang onto every sliver of memories or could haves. Life has changed so much in 2 years. Her brothers older going through life without her, would they be better brothers because of her here? A tender sweet girl frolicking through our walls? The wicked soundtrack can be….well rather wicked to my heart as I think of Mia, me always being the wicked witch in her story, and she always getting to play Glinda, carefree, pretty and popular. I miss her tremendously. And as always, it hurts heavy & hard before the actual holiday. Before the family photos, before the milestone. Grief does that sometimes to preserve our feelings that we can safely express them in private moments, like today rather than around the Thanksgiving table while everyone is expressing their thankfulness for Turkey and their amazing year. Mia has changed me for good. She’s teaching me even beyond the veil. Because I knew her, because I know her I am for the better💚🩷 #grief #childloss #griefandloss by @fiercelyalia

I’ve been off social for a while, so I’m gonna dump posts of all the fun things I’ve been doing for the last month! Today was the @olivetreepeople conference in downtown LA where we shut down part of a street and ate under an olive grove of trees lining the street! I connected with all my favorite ladies, and got to finally get my hands on the NEW @oliverosecosmetics 🌹I cannot wait to share! This company is amazing. I cannot even fit what amazing things they do, such as building water wells in countries where people cannot access clean drinking water, to going above & beyond of being a sustainable olive tree farm to give jobs to locals in Spain etc so our products are bio organic and pure! 🫒 the night ended with the amazing @colbiecaillat signing songs I screamed sung on the top of my lungs in college days and still today. So FUN! Here’s a photo dump of today! Stay tuned for all the makeup🩷 by @fiercelyalia

I recorded this on my flight home from Canada. The sky looked like it was on fire beneath the clouds. It struck me! how wild the contrast was: above the clouds, everything felt calm, almost cozy. Meanwhile, somewhere down below, a fiery sunset raged.

Grief can feel a lot like that. Peaceful on the surface, quiet, manageable while underneath, your entire world is burning. The colors are so bright and overwhelming that you can’t see clearly. And even though the fire doesn’t last forever, it takes time for your eyes to adjust once the sun finally sets.

Over the past year and a half, I’ve seen so many sunsets and sunrises. Each one has carried a weight of emotion that stops me in my tracks. Nick and I share photos back and forth, trying to capture the sky but nothing ever looks quite like it does in person. The camera never catches what my eyes and heart can see. Every sunset feels like a reminder: I lost her again today.

Another day without her.

What’s funny about life is that we think we have all the time in the world… until we don’t. All those “somedays” can be torn away in a single moment. So many of us will experience a loss like that. And they say the greater the love, the deeper the grief. Sometimes, it’s in that grief that we feel closest to the ones we’ve lost.

Another angel mom said recently that she’s trying to be the best version of herself and soak up as much joy as she can until she’s with her little one again.

I think every grieving parent is trying to do the same. I know I am. Even when it doesn’t feel like I am. Even when it looks like I’m not. I’m trying.

How beautiful it is that we even get to exist.
To feel love. Heartbreak. Joy. Sorrow. Worry. Fear. Excitement. Happiness.
All of it.
It’s all beautiful.
Even the mess. Especially the mess

This past weekend was incredible. I’ve never been to Banff and I don’t think i ever would have if it weren’t for @olivetreepeople I qualified for this trip & the day before didn’t even want to go. The pay out was well worth the tears! If you saw my weekend and thought I want to do that to, DM me I would love to link arms with you and do more like this! 🫒. A HUGE thank you to the women who made it to the top of this company and said “I want to share this and inspire others” while treating us with income they made personally. by @fiercelyalia

Today has been a mix of emotions. As I walked into church my first thought was “i. Do.not.want.to.be.here” and part of me was sad that I thought that. But I knew why. I knew I would have to endure seeing those sweet children’s faces at the podium sing a Mother’s Day song. I envision Mia up there and wondered how big she would be today.

I sat next to my mom. Thankful she knew how I felt but sad that me and my family were missing a big part of my motherhood. I love my boys. I always thought I’d only have boys, but every Sunday I put on my dresses sad that I’m no longer doing Mias hair, matching with her and hearing her ask to use my lipstick.

My sole purpose has always been to bring my sweet children into this world. I love being a mom. I struggle with God. He knows where I am at with him. The pleadings of why me?! Why did this have to be my path. And the path that led to us today was met with a lot of trauma even before her death. Why so much?! What did I do?

It’s okay to question Gods purpose, his plan. I know I’ll get an answer. But for today, I am feeling emptiness. Sadness, pain and hurt. My soul feels ripped apart. Tomorrow I won’t feel this way. These feelings don’t last long everyday. This Mother’s Day hit different this year for sure. I miss every part of her in our family. I feel incomplete as a mom without her voice galloping through our home pestering her brothers. I impatiently wait the day when I will have all four of my heartbeats wrapped in my arms again. by @fiercelyalia

A little #ditl with my mom! It was fun to follow her around and shop with her also to capture our random conversations. What i didn’t get recorded was her talking about my prom dress from 22 years ago! 🙈😬 she lost her husband (my dad) over a year ago. She’s brave and still doing life alone. We all do hard things. It was fun to tell her I recorded everything! Love my mom! 🩷 by @fiercelyalia

He’s not here for He has Risen! ✝️ ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
This Easter weekend was so busy. So busy that I felt like I wasn’t in tune, in tune to the spirit, listening to Mia or my dad, I was just going so hard and so fast that last night I finally realized….⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I was being carried by my angels. I was almost on a high last night after a large arduous day of setting up & the perfectionist in me wanting things perfect for the Easter evening for my friends and church members, that’s where the spirit was. I felt so much joy and love watching everyone enjoy the evening. The kids singing along and the amazement of seeing the beautiful transformation of our gym to feel intimate and symbolic of the most important day in history. I loved being apart of making it so special. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I hopped out of bed this morning despite being so exhausted to bake cinnamon rolls and get ready for church to practice early for our song we sang, I was in such good spirits. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Dinner with my family and sisters family and mom. It felt safe and right. I loved it. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Oddly I felt like I shouldn’t have been joyful. But each time we snapped a picture my mind went “I’m so sad Mia isn’t in this picture, she should be here” ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
After we visited her memorial butterfly our neighborhood HOA put in the park and then the cemetery, the tears began to well. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The sting of her death will never ever ever go away. It doesn’t burn as much as it did that first day of driving away from her resting place. But I cry every time. Taking family pictures by a graveside isn’t what I ever imagined in my life. But now it is my life. My faith has been tested and continues to be. To trust that this isn’t all for not⁣⁣
⁣⁣
But like the lyrics of the song sung today⁣⁣
