I did it, 2nd place in the Spartan AG Series, age cat 50 - 54! 🥈☺️

This weekend saw the final race in the Spartan AG national series, The Beast!, 21kms of undulating trails & 25 obstacles. 💚

Although I've run age group races as a way to challenge myself, I've never committed to a series.

It all hinged on this race whether I could position second, I just needed to run as fast as I could to try and keep as close to the athlete in first place, as she is super duper speedy, and your points are worked out on how far behind first place you are.

It was warm, I was struggling with a cold and had nothing left in the tank at the end, even the rope climb eluded me, after three previous penalty loops for ape hanger, Spear throw and Olympus.....but I did it and placed 2nd 🥈 🙂 and third for the Beast itself 🥉.

I am of course proud of myself, but not as proud as I want to be. It's not always about being the best, but the best you can be and for me that would be to have a clean course. For me that means more grip strength and upper body work.

I've recently joined the group training plan with @teamgrit.ocr and hoping with some dedication to the plan I can improve and become the best that I can. Roll on next season.

Thank you @spartanraceuk for a great weekend of racing!

My first time running the Kenysham Dandy yesterday, which was 12 wonderful trail miles that had a bit of everything 😊.
Sooooo in my happy place on the trails, I can honestly say it makes me feel alive ❤️. Smiling from ear to ear.....well slightly less on the steep hills 🤣
Thank you @tachbristol for a top race! Really well organised and marked up with lots of fabulous marshalls. I will 💯% be back next year, loved it.

This weekend saw the last @spartanraceuk event of the year at Pippingford, London way somewhere...
Might have made 2nd on the podium for the 10k super in my Age Category, which placed me 2nd over all in the series too. That was a great end to the weekend, but just as great to see the @team_wildfire_ocr team and do the 5k Sprint afterwards with some of the team.💙
But getting some obstacle achievements too, Olympus which is a toughie, only done once before in 8 years racing, but got it today, had a blip on the rope climb and monkey bars recently, if you saw the monkey bars ya would know, the bars are like 10 miles apart 😆, but completed on both races and tilting ladders on the Super, means more than the medals in a way...oh and got the pesky spear on both = no frigging burpees!
Big shout out also to those on the team that did the ultra 💪

Beautiful waterfalls and views at Pen Pych 😍
8 mile circular walk, lovely and peaceful after the last waterfall, saw no one, just how I like it!

#nevertooold I didn't start SteepleChase until I was 53, why SteepleChase and why then you might ask?...It looked fun, it looked a bit like obstacle racing and was running too. And @newportharriers 💛🖤 were so encouraging, so very inclusive.
Why should age be a barrier, use it or lose it, and one of my favourite sayings is from Clint Eastwood, "I don't let the old (man) in", talking about how he maintained so much energy. This so is my attitude. I may not be fast, it may not be pretty, but it gives me something to work for, something I can hopefully improve on. You're never too old to try something new.

First wild swim of the year, checking out some local places.
Parked at the Newbridge on Usk, popped into ask if it was okay and said I'd pop back for a drink after (which went down very well and great views from the beer garden). But there is a small pull in 300 metres or so from the pub, which would fit 3 cars and has a gate into a field which follows the river. You can walk through here and drop to the river further up, the river there is quite shallow and you can walk across.
I dropped down a steep bit before the gate though and sat on some rocks as thought it might be quieter.
The current was fairly strong, but swimming up stream and keeping to the edge was fine. Swam up about 300 metres and came back, did a couple of these.
The water was so warm and it was so very peaceful 🤩.
Saw loads of beautiful blue dragonflies💙

After so little running due to hols and practically a full 5 weeks off for an op, I wasn't expecting much at my first Spartan of the year, the Beast on Saturday, (14 miles, 2500ft elevation and 30 obstacles). To make it to the start line for this cheeky race was optimistic in itself, especially after the lakes hiking 😆. But still decided to race Age Category, the Wildfire Team were running it also and so nice to see them on the course too and encouraging each other 💙.
But I managed to achieve 2nd in my age category and placed 32nd out of the 54 other females tackling the Age Category series. I'll take that 😊.
Sunday I ran the Sprint, 5k with the child 🥰 and @team_wildfire_ocr.
Thanks @spartanraceuk

A few days of running to the hills in the Lake District ⛰️
Camped in Buttermere and day one was a 16 mile hike, 6500ft of elevation and some beautiful views and sunshine!
Ticked off 6 Wainwrights, planned 5 but had to add in Cat Bells. The views walking down to it were epic and there was a little house right by the lake! From here headed to Hindscarth before back to Buttermere lake and a well earned pint!

So nice to get back on the trails today after a few weeks off.
A lovely 10k trail run on forest roads from Devauden, quite alot of up!
It was nice that they awarded some extra prizes to give a variety of people a chance of something, two random drawn finish places and the craziest finish line entrance 🤣, it was a well deserved win!

Medal Monday at Brechfa trail half marathon ❤️
What a gorgeous trail half by @ridge_runners_wales on Saturday. This was the one I hadn't done of the three trail halfs, I loved the Machen and Radyr halfs, so needed the hat trick and this didn't disappoint. Still had a good amount of little tracks mixed in with the forestry trails, lots of ups and some downhills to go with them and a teeny weeny stream to cross.
Great marshalls, a great run and some great soup at the end. 😊
Credit to @tosh_simpkin for the first photo 💙

Remember at school being the last one picked for a team, not being in the popular group, often bullied cause you weren't 'cool' or had spots, or didn't wear the right clothes or say cool things..

Does it actually change when we are older? The difference is you see it all over social media, just to rub it in that extra bit.

You're not cool enough, fun enough to be invited to the meets outside of the main group meet ups, the little get togethers. You're not invited to the leaving party, the work do, cause you're a girl, or you just don't meet what they want. You're in the whatsapp groups but you're the only person no one wishes happy birthday to. You're in the social media pages, but everyone else's posts are liked but not yours everytime you post. ( This isn't always, one group always surprises me with their love when I'm not even expecting to have it)

Your mind starts doing overtime, and you think you're a social outcast, did you say the wrong thing, do the wrong thing.

Maybe they just aren't your people. It's not you, it's them. You are enough.

It's okay not to be okay.

I'm content, being alone can get to you at times, only sometimes, but what gets to you, is being forgotten, you're in a constant mind battle as to why, you spiral.

My people, my friends, I absolutely cherish, they are awesome ❤️

Put your energy where it is appreciated and reciprocated. Go were you are celebrated not tolerated.

A walk in the mountains frees the soul, is my happy place, time to get out there again.

My 9th time of running the The City of Newport Half Marathon @newporthalf 🏃‍♀️💙.
Preferring trail, it's practically the only road race I do these days, but will always choose to run it as it's such a good race. An amazing cause in St David's Hospice , super well organised, great support on route from crowds and marshalls, way more musical support this year, which gives you such a boost 🥰 and it's a lovely route, although on road, a good 4 miles is on footpaths, so much prettier!
Thanks to the @rock_choir, @welshweddingbagpiper , the cadets and all the other small bands and singers 🎵🎶. And thanks to @tinyrebelbrewco for the beer at the end, cheers 🍺.
Came in under 2.10, which I'll take seeing as I've not run more than 8 mile distance since November and that was only once 🤣.
