FIG NYC is proud to endorse the campaign for the Park Slope Food Coop to boycott Israeli products — a movement within and beyond the coop that folks have been building for YEARS. More than 3,800 Coop members have already signed on in support. As a cooperative with a long history of participating in boycott campaigns for justice, we believe this effort continues that tradition. We urge Coop members to register and attend the May 26 General Meeting and vote YES on the boycott.

We are food justice organizers deep in the Palestine solidarity movement, who believe our neighborhoods and communities are sites for real change. We’re galvanized by PSFC 4 Palestine’s opportunity to push our beloved coop to practice its politics through BDS.

Learn more @psfc4palestine — and if you’re a member, we’ll see you at the (virtual) meeting! by @fig_nyc_

Calling our New York City network 📣 beloved comrades @choycommons are THISCLOSE to hitting their sign up goal of 450 shares for Asian Vegetable Club — aka their collaborative, cooperatively run CSA 💪

Looking for a weekly community supported agriculture pick up featuring culturally resonant and locally thriving veg from @choydivision @gentletimefarming @starroutefarm? Hop over to @choycommons to grab a share!

Not only talented, heart-centered farmers, these folks are powerful organizers, working together since 2021 to explore “What does it mean to be visible, engaged, and organized as Asian Americans within the food/climate justice movement?

We are grateful to ride alongside Choy Commons — most recently deepening our connections with the collective raising funds and growing veg for @fig_nyc_’s Food Security Program with @citgny, and with worker-owners Kaija, Salt and Christina joining the pilot @taiwanfoodandfarmtour 🥬💚 May we continue to learn and grow together, and support each others work — and we all benefit when we can enjoy these incredible vegetables, grown by people who’s love, labor and land are valued and cherished. by @fig_nyc_

Our collective is more offline and IRL, and less online these days, especially in these monstrous times — but are resurfacing to share some much needed sweetness 🫂

A belated and sincere thank you for to everyone who turned up and out for @queersoupnight last month benefitting our Food Security Program with @citgny! 💚💚💚

Y’all packed the house @boyfriendcoop, slurped up ALL of the delicious soup from @thelescook @rene__lozzi @meoohmaia, and helped us raise $1500 for our ongoing mutual aid food distribution!

For community controlled, community-funded projects like ours, every dollar counts. For us, $1500 can translate to:
— 1 week of fresh produce shares for TG community, including logistics and labor from our BIPOC trans and queer farmer comrades, OR
— weeks of culturally resonant prepared meals from local food biz partners, OR
— 10 weeks of logistics and deliveries from coop Brooklyn Packers, OR
— a full day of language justice support (interpretation, translation, facilitation) for one of our bilingual multi-partner gatherings!

Deep thank you to our chefs for your love and labor. Thank you @jesselwessel stepping up to lovingly steer the ship on the event organizing side, shout out @lizalpern, @ella00000ooo and Ryan for on-site support, and Denia for English-Spanish interepretation! Our love and solidarity forever to Erin and all of the dear ones @citgny — may we continue to find ways, and resources, to take care of our intertwined communities together.

And because there are always many more behind the scenes — and let the acknowledgement and gratitude always pour forth — thank you to all the chefs, farmers, and organizers who have been nurturing our community day through FSP since 2020: @pixiescoutnyc @choycommons @tmkinitiative @connectedchef @catskillsagrarianalliance @eggrestaurant @brooklynpackers @rocksteadyfarm @insabrooklyn @arvsweets @brooklyngrange @citgny.

Admin reveal 🌞 our delegate intros continue — meet @kimberchou, writer, artist, organizer and landworker. Fun fact: She and @culturalrootsnursery first linked last year in Taiwan, and have been collaborating stateside ever since.

Kimberly Chou Tsun An is a community organizer and landworker based in Brooklyn, NY, with roots in Detroit, MI and Taiwan. She is a founding member of @FIG_NYC_, a food justice collective working to build a more equitable food system through programs including
political education for food workers and mutual aid food distribution.

Through communal gatherings and workshops — drawing on herbal medicine, altar making and other ancestral technologies — she explores what it means to be living in this present moment, while grounded in the past and summoning the possibilities of the future. She practices “five-point protocol” ear acupuncture in the lineage of the Young Lords and Black Panthers.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO CO-ORGANIZE THIS TRIP?

“Building across communities and cultures with Asian-American landworkers has expanded my perspective, made me a stronger and more strategic organizer, and moved me at my core. It’s by no accident that we found each other to do this collective work. I look forward to continued learning and strengthening solidarity between folks in diaspora and folks in Asia, at a time when longview organizing and international interdependence is critical.”

Dear community, on this auspicious mid-autumn harvest moon we’re thrilled to announce the pilot TAIWAN DIASPORA DELEGATION: FOOD AND FARM TOUR Nov 15-21

Co-organized by and for Taiwanese-/Asian-American land workers, this learning journey welcomes 8 folks to the island for cultural exchange, skill sharing and international solidarity building, in collaboration with Taiwanese farmers and organizing partners.

It’s a critical time on the clock of the world — for Taiwan, for climate change, for people-to-people interdependence at home and across the world. We’re grateful to practice our collective commitment to strengthening agroecology and food sovereignty work, by connecting our movements across the Pacific.

No better way to spend the last day of summer/bring in the fall equinox than with other earth tenders, in harvest and in farm care. 🍃🍁The farm is so sweet at this time of year, with crops showing signs of being ready to rest, yet simultaneously shining in maturity. I am also tired— it has been a full and demanding season and I feel in my bones the need to slow down. Such is fall, the creeping in of cooler nights and mornings and the plants offering to be harvested and not forgotten in the endless list of tasks. The land takes care of and restores us, as we honor and tend to it in its final days. The days are shorter, forcing rest. To be blessed at the end of the season with skilled helping hands and discussions on sovereignty and collective action is the sweetest of gifts. Our bellies and hearts are full and we are in good company for the long road ahead. 🌞🌿🧡 taken in Chester Agricultural Center by @fig_nyc_

Hearts full, minds on fire! ❤️‍🔥

Thank you everyone who participated in our powerful “SOLIDARITY EVERYWHERE” community teach-in this past Sunday @honeysbrooklyn! Our second collaborative @fig_nyc_ @asians4palestinenyc production for the people, with support from @18millionrising.

There are many ways to build solidarity everywhere — to globalize the intifada — to practice revolutionary hope. Grateful to have convened so many of us to highlight and tap into some of these ways this weekend — through conversation, storytelling, cultural resistance, food, sheer human connection. May we continue to learn, connect and build, as individuals and collectively. International solidarity, in measures big and small, will get us free — together 🫂

Thank you to our speakers and teachers, drawing out the ties between Southeast Asian and Palestinian liberation struggles past, present and future:
@r.ouaaa, @sabri, Chhaya Chhoum of @seafnofficial Annie Ly @asians4palestinenyc

As the world’s imperial powers attempt to subjugate and separate us, we re-commit to the transnational solidarity required for our survival!

Join us for an evening of culture, learning, food, film, and music to deepen the powerful connections between Southeast Asian and Palestinian liberation movements. Fifty years since the (formal) end of the American war on Southeast Asia, we are fighting to end the enduring U.S. investment in Israel’s war on Palestinians. To mark this moment we gather not just to honor the fierce resistance that ended the imperialist wars of the past — but to ask how our communities, and allies, can learn from and strengthen each other through creative, strategic, and international organizing now.

Program:

— Teach-in with Roua Daas (Students for Justice in Palestine, @palestinianyouthmovement), @sabri (tatreez artist), Chhaya Chhoum (@seafnofficial) and Annie Ly (@asians4palestinenyc)
— Screening of “Taking Root,” stories of Southeast Asians in Philadelphia after the war
— Ceremonial offering, chef-artist Phoebe Tran (@bebep.babykitchen)
— Music from @palestineforever.nyc DJs @themusicofomar and @_______________mohamed
— Soap, wine, and more from SWANA farmers @saboonmaazeh and @wildarcfarm
— Food vending: @thejoyoffeasting @johnny_hummus — Indonesian x Palestinian culinary collab
— Indigenous dance traditions of the Southern Philippines, @kindingsindaw

Pay-what-you-can entry $15-30 ♥️ link in bio. Please pay as you are able — funds will go toward covering our costs and paying participant honoraria; any additional will be redistributed to Palestinian mutual aid projects.

With gratitude and fortitude, onward. taken in Honey's Brooklyn by @fig_nyc_
