POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Hello friends of the algorithm. Hope this finds you well.

I have not been on here much lately but my desk has been a flurry of paper with drawing as I am working away on a new book. Very thankful.
✍🏽

I’m also very thankful and honoured to have the support of @creative.australia to work on this new comic book.
🙏

Comics are books are made for reading. Reading expanded my consciousness. Reading laid the foundation of a passion for words and ideas, images, and artwork. Reading makes the impossible possible. I’m very grateful to read.

Hey, how’s it going?
I’ve been playing witg some new print pieces. This lino plate piece was made with subtractive 3d printing and is part of some collaborations with master printer Dale Nason. Videos here are from the excellent @playablemelb parklet in Brunswick ✨

Looking forward to another session soon.

OTHER TONGUE
Nelio and Fikaris

The first language Nelio and Fikaris learned in childhood was play. Drawing is a form of play and if you are lucky, you never stop.

When we met in a dark laneway in 2006, we came from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds, yet shared a common instinct: to draw, to experiment, and to intervene in the urban spaces around them.

For OTHER TONGUE, we present a new series of works on paper initiated together in France in 2024. The works emerge from a simple proposition rooted in their shared experience of the street: one of us makes an image, and the other “buffs” it by covering, altering or erasing it, before the process begins again.

Opening:
Friday, October 9
5–9pm

Everfresh Gallery

Exhibition open

Nelio Riga and I are long term collaborators with a propensity of variety always present. This current set of collaborations includes a whole stack of new experiments with our other understandings of improvisation and flow.

In this piece Nelio has used both sides of the page to mark his ever so delicate space changers with a type of bleed of subtle colour drifts. To this I have taken pencil notes of overheard conversations within a public space where I was drawing.
This piece is untitled like most of the calm moments we take for granted.

These pages are part of a new set of printed booklets as part of a display this weekend @everfreshgallery

Reprinting some mini comics here this month for @otherworldszinefair

This is an excerpt form one of them. 7 pages from a 10 page piece originally published in the fine German anthology ‘Schnozel Mozel’ back in 2017, then collected with some other pieces for a collection of short stories ‘Mind Control’ in 2018.

I am reprinting Mind Control, 64 pages, and a couple of other comics to bring to the excellent fair happening Saturday, July 11

Hi there friends! Did this find you in the algorithm? I hope this message finds you doing ok in our mad world. Hope it finds you able to take time out.

I have managed some time out and am sharing some images of my work here for you.

The cover image from my latest publication ‘Readers for Paintings’ and a painting from one of the drawings.

The publication is full of drawings of people reading, refined to the simplest shapes for the sheer joy of disappearing in the act of creativity.

“Creativity shuts down anxiety. So, when you create it makes sense that you feel most alive, never lonely never anxious. You’re not just making something you’re sinking with the deepest rhythm of the universe.
You’re remembering what you’re made of.
When you create you’re in that energy field, you’re part of and one with the infinite universal creation. That’s why creativity is such an essential part of our experience here on earth.”
Martha Beck

This publication is a follow up to my ‘Read Daily’ publication from last year and was put together with dozens of drawings I will enjoy painting somewhere in the future for the same purpose- to experience life on earth with less anxiety.

Come and have a look this Friday night when I’ll be sharing the publication with friends @baxter_tck and @giovannadasilva__ here in Naarm

IN A ROOM WITH MICHAEL FIKARIS

In a Room is a conversation series where we ask our friends to share their favourite domestic spaces. For this edition, we’re joined by visual artist @fikaris_art .

Michael Fikaris is an Australian artist of Greek-Ukrainian heritage, based in Naarm/Melbourne. His multidisciplinary practice spans comics, illustration, printmaking, painting, installation, and publishing. He founded @silentarmyprojects, a platform for collaborative publishing and creative engagement, and his work has been shown in exhibitions such as Endless Drawing and held in collections including the National Gallery of Victoria and National Gallery of Australia.

In this edition, Michael invites us into the rooms where ideas and rest converge: his home study, the living room with records and slower pace, the childhood sewing room, and the residencies and independent libraries he’s drawn to. His reflections trace how memory, sound, books, conversation, and creative rituals animate the places we inhabit.
