POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The first language @_nelio and @fikaris_art learned in childhood was play. Drawing is a form of play and if you are lucky, you never stop.

When the two artists met in a dark laneway in 2006, they came from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds, yet shared a common instinct: to draw, to experiment, and to intervene in the urban spaces around them.

For OTHER TONGUE, the artists present a new series of works on paper initiated together in France in 2024. The works emerge from a simple proposition rooted in their shared experience of the street: one artist makes an image, and the other “buffs” it by covering, altering or erasing it, before the process begins again.

Each mark carries the memory of what came before, while making space for what comes next. The image is never quite finished; it is continually overwritten, transformed and returned.

Come and see their latest collaborative exhibition, Other Tongue, opening Friday 5-9pm. Also showing Saturday and Sunday 11-6pm

OTHER TONGUE
Fikaris & Nelio

When these two artists met in a dark laneway in 2006, they came from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds, yet shared a common instinct: to draw, to experiment, and to intervene in the urban spaces around them. They have collaborated ever since.

Twenty years on, for OTHER TONGUE, the artists present a new series of works on paper, initiated together in France in 2024 and finished this year. The works emerge from a simple proposition rooted in their shared experience of the street: one artist makes an image, and the other “buffs” it by covering, altering or erasing it, before the process begins again. Each mark carries the memory of what came before, while making space for what comes next.

This exhibition project is accompanied by a pair of limited-edition zines, one printed in each hemisphere.

Little wrap up post, had such a blast taking part in the Parallel Panels graphic novelist workshop organised by @melcityoflit

For a couple months a group of ten cartoonists from Naarm/Melbourne, Australia and Bucheon, Korea met for a weekly virtual round table. Host Bernard Caleo spearheaded a really fun activity where we each made a comic page and removed the text, which was then sent to everyone. We then added our own text, making up new stories mad lib-style, and then each week two artists would be picked and everyone shared their interpretation of their page.

(Check out both versions of mine on my feed, I’d love to see what new text you come up with!)

It was so interesting how some pages seemed to steer everyone to write very similar things, but others would send us all off in completely different directions. Honestly it was more a psychology exercise than anything. I'm so grateful to have taken part in such a unique cross-cultural workshop, and I can't wait to get to Bucheon one day to meet all our new friends in person.

I highly recommend checking out everyone's work (click the image!), so many unique styles and stories. 친구들, 곧 만나요!

Hello human friends!

Just a quick corporate media social update letting you know i’m working on a new comic book.

This is not it though, these are scans from a comic book I made a few years ago.

If you’re here reading this, i’m also here to say- stay human! Keep using your imagination- it works!

i have been lucky enough to have been included in the Parallel Panels virtual writers room over the past six weeks thanks to the @melcityoflit where we each got to draw a nine panel comic, remove the text, and have the story rewritten by our fellow comic artists. it was a fantastic time with such a brilliant and talented group from here in Naarm to Bucheon in South Korea. here is my original comic with text and a Zoom group photo to commemorate the end of this awesome program‼️‼️ cant wait to follow along on the successes of these artists and see what they do next ✏️🐈💻
