There's just something about buchi that holds such a special place in my heart. The chewy, nutty-sweet, crispy goodness is just a little bite of perfection (and not too sweet). This recipe (featured below) is version 2 of our previous buchi recipe from last year and it's surprisingly easy to make!

✨️Recipe Below✨️

Buchi

Ingredients:

Glutinous Rice Flour (1 3/4 c - 2 c)
Hot water mixed with 3 tbsp sugar (3/4 cup)

Filling:
Red Bean Paste: 1 cup

Sesame seeds for coating
Water for brushing

1. Combine the sugar-water mixture and the glutinous rice flour. Mix until it becomes a firm dough. If it's too loose or too firm, add either more flour or water 1 tbsp at a time until desired consistency is achieved.
2. Divide the dough into equal parts (roughly 1.5 tbsp balls) and shape.
3. Press the dough ball flat and add desired amount of red bean paste. Shape into a ball, making sure all edges are sealed and no bean paste is leaking out.
4. Brush shaped buchi with water and roll in sesame seeds to coat completely.
5. Heat oil to 375°F/190°C. Fry the buchi. In the oil they will expand and take on a more round shape. Remove once they are golden brown and feel firm to touch. Drain on papertowels and enjoy hot.

Last minute baking some pandan bibingka before the New Year! I tried to be artsy and make a lil marble pattern, but... it didn't stay 😅
The base bibingka recipe (sans pandan extract) is pinned in the comments.

There is never a wrong time for pancit, especially when it includes some crispy @eatmagnolia tocino cooked in. It adds just a little special ✨️something✨️ to it all.

Thank you so much again to @eatmagnolia !

Reposting because of some audio issues :)

Out of all the portable hand-held foods I adore, empanadas are definitely in the top rank. On top of that, longanisa empanadas with Sukang Iloko are probably my favourite empanadas! Before you ask, the answer is yes; vinegar as an accompaniment is absolutely non-negotiable.

When I lived in Texas, I loved getting kolaches, which are sausages and cheese or other fillings baked in a dough. In Czech, they're known as klobasnek. Since I've come back to California, I haven't been able to find them as easily and the cravings have been something fierce.

Enter @eatmagnolia and their new Sweet Hamonado longanisa. Combined with my attempt at kolache dough and some shredded cheese, I consider this craving satisfied. These would also make for a great sharable item to bring to your next potluck!

As I've mentioned before in a previous post, my family always has embutido at gatherings, both holidays and otherwise.

BUT, I've always wondered how it would turn out if it was breaded and fried. Spoiler: it's pretty good and perfect for a special occasion (this particular special occasion being that it's a weekday ending in "y").

Thank you so much again to @eatmagnolia for the care package and for letting us try all their new longanisa.

I wish I had a great caption for today's post, but unfortunately I don't. Instead, come with me to offer atang (food offerings) for my Lolos and Lolas.

For reference, today is Undas (also known as All Souls Day, Kalag Kalag, Dáun, or Araw ng mga Patay). From November 1-2, many Filipinos often gather to celebrate the lives of their loved ones who have passed on. The tradition shares a lot of similarities to Mexico's Dia de los Muertos, but the tradition of honoring the dead is a precolonial practice in both countries. by @filipinokitchen

There's just something about rice cooked in a clay pot that makes it taste so cozy and comforting. Maybe it's the crispy rice at the bottom, maybe it's the sweetness of the @eatmagnolia longanisa, maybe it's the way the chicken stock plumps each grain of rice. Either way, it's the perfect dish for this Autumn weather (that's FINALLY decided to make an appearance here in California).

Thank you again to @eatmagnolia for the care package and the longanisa!

This dish is probably one of the most tasty little experiments I've done in a while. In an effort to satisfy a craving for sisig, tocilog, and pancit this was the happy little result :)
