“Pointe of Obsession” (2024)

A little late on sharing this one, but I still feel proud to have worked on this very fun and campy, dance/horror short with some awesomely talented people.

Hi there! ...Well, it's been a long minute since I posted anything on my feed on this app. I've been much more private these days. But I figured, why not start with posting some of my favorite DP work that I've done during my years at UCLA, now that I have recently graduated from the MFA film program? It makes sense to *finally* do so 😅 and to get comfortable with posting on here again.

Anyway, this project was shot for a lighting course back in 2023. My friend @derekderoche and I wanted to make something spooky. So with the help of our awesome cast and crew, we did, and it was fun! :)

I'm still in awe; to have been surrounded by works from some of the greatest minds who helped us understand the universe, its mystery and all of its wonder. ☺️🥹✨

For as long as I could remember, Laurel Canyon always had a very special place in my heart due to its sheer beauty of the homes in the hilltops and it's historic 70s rock/folk scene. So last week I decided to spend a day hiking from Hollywood to the canyon to finally checkout the legendary The Canyon Country Store and Love Street in person. It’s such a magical place with all its charm and 70s music history, I will always love it here. 🍃❤️☮️

Last week I decided to take alittle day trip to the famous LACMA for the first time! So many beautiful pieces of Asian, indigenous, Latin, Greek/Roman, European art at the new David Geffen Gallery but my most anticipated was the new installation from director Alejandro Inarritu where he shared a treasure trove of leftover 35mm film from his archives of his debut feature film “Amores Perros”(2000), creating a viscerally and captivating blend of cinema, sound, and visual art.

It was also my first time riding the Metro subway in L.A, which…surprisingly…wasn't that bad, lol.

It was a fun and enriching experience. ❤️

Hey! I know...long time no post. But in light of this week's SCOTUS horrendous decision to gut the historic Voting Rights Act that ended the Jim Crow era back in 1965, I wanted to share a special podcast episode I had the pleasure of being part of recently, back in February. Hosted by @vadahuff on his 'Dark Habits An Amoldvar Podcast', he, fellow guest @markoestes/ @midnightsocialdistortion, and I discussed two experimental documentary films by the famed Marlon Riggs: "Ethnic Notions" and "Tongues Untied."

"Ethnic Notions" (1987) dives deep into the history of violent anti-black racial stereotypes originating from the antebellum and Jim Crow South that still has its claws in American society today. Whereas "Tongues Untied" (1989) is a poetic exploration of the vulnerability, silencing, and racial prejudices gay black men face within both heterosexual and white LGBTQ communities. This was my first time watching Riggs' films, and they are worth giving a watch.

Riggs' experimental documentary films are a reminder that as this country continues to strip our rights away, we mustn't forget the anti-black/racist foundation that this country built within its structures since its conception, and those in black, brown, and other marginalized groups suffer the most because of it. This was one of my favorite podcast episodes I've done in a while, so thanks again, @vadahuff, for having me on for this discussion...and for letting me drag D.W. Griffith lol.

You can find our episode on Spotify, Podbean, Google Play and elsewhere-https://open.spotify.com/episode/7xiPatlj9WWgZmZgIeLq5Z?si=5f446588474448b1

Enjoy! ❤️

A wonderful night at the Aero! ❤️🖤 Last Sunday I had the opportunity to finally see @crispinhellionglover live slideshow, Q&A and book signing, including a screening of his newest film “No! You're Wrong or Spooky Action At A Distance” And best of all, it was a pleasure to meet him and have my copies of his books signed by him as well. 🥰 As a long time fan of his (and of Back to the Future) this night made me smile. Looking forward to his next live show!
