🇵🇸 decentralised screening resource
🎞️ in support of the Palestinian struggle
⬇️ follow guide below to organise your own screening
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
A note on how we distribute your generous donations.

Our aim has always been to support Palestinian cinema through our fundraising – an initiative to join the cultural intifada for a free Palestine. Through conversations with Palestinian filmmakers and key people in the industry, it became clear that there was a need for more informal, direct and individualised support.

We've therefore created this divide of funds raised, allowing things to take their time and continuing the main purpose of Films of Resistance: to inspire deep thinking, understanding, compassion, and – ultimately – long-term, sustainable and active resistance to the genocide and oppression of the Palestinian people.

As such, our primary aim is to show great, diverse, strong Palestinian cinema (which there is plenty of!) and fundraise for its continuation by reinvesting in film equipment, productions in process and filmmakers thereby splitting our support into short-, medium- and long term.

More details below ⏬
___

1. 📽️ 50% of the donations go to supporting cultural and grassroots organisations in the occupied territories of Palestine. Our aim is to distribute this step by step across the land.

2. 📝 40% of the donations go to informal support of productions in process by Palestinian filmmakers based in the region. A dedicated film committee reviews each script and budget, deciding how this can be best supported – in kind (through direct advice from our network) and/or financially. Each film is considered in its own (it's not a competition) and you're welcome to spread the world about this.

3. 💷 Some films have screening fees – some fixed and some depending on the space of the screening – and we aim for 10% of all donations to cover these fees. by @filmsofresistance_

📽️ On 5th June, we're excited to bring you a programme curated by filmmaker @reemjub "Cinematic Rebellion: From Los Angeles to Palestine"

In times of rising fascism and needless war, artists turn to cinema as a weapon of self‑expression, community, and resistance. Ours is not the first generation to seek healing through film, but we hope it will be the last that must. This programme honours the L.A. Rebellion, the group of African‑American filmmakers who rejected Hollywood’s constraints during an era of uprising and instead built a cinematic language rooted in liberation and community care.

We bring together two films, L.A REBELLION: A CINEMATIC MOVEMENT (2025, 56min) and DON'T BE LONG, LITTLE BIRD (2025, 23min), to illuminate the lineage between the original L.A.Rebellion artists and contemporary Palestinian filmmaker Reem Jubran, who continues that legacy today. Together, these works create a dialogue across generations, geographies, and liberation movements.

The screenings will be followed by a panel discussion with director, Reem Jubran and guests.

🗓️ Fri 5 June, 8:15pm

Join us for a screening of Dégradé 🎬

by twin brothers Arab and Tarzan Nasser (
@arab_nasser88 | @tarzan.nasser

Set entirely inside a women’s hair salon in Gaza, Dégradé follows a group of women trapped for thirteen hours as
violence erupts outside. Blending realism with dark humor, the film offers a powerful portrait of the political, social, and economic pressures shaping everyday life in Gaza—and the increasingly limited spaces available to women.

Starring acclaimed Palestinian actor and filmmaker Hiam Abbass, Dégradé marked an early milestone in the Nasser brothers’ internationally celebrated careers. Their later works include Gaza Mon Amour (NETPAC Award, TIFF 2020) and Once Upon a Time in Gaza (Best Director, Un Certain Regard, Cannes 2025).

A decade after its release, we revisit Dégradé in light of Gaza’s ongoing realities. The screening will be preceded by an introduction from Palestinian filmmaker Said Zagha (@said.zagha) and artist Aser El Saqqa (@aserelsaqqa) from Arts Canteen.

Proceeds support the Jenin Cultural Tour campaign.

Announcing our new screening in London in collaboration with the @thegardencinema! As part of their brand new season "New Lebanese Cinema: Reclaiming Storytelling", we will be showing a film that bridges and interconnects the lives and history of the Lebanese and Palestinian people.

Beyond the focus on Palestinian childhood and family life in refugee camps of Lebanon, Mai Masri and Jean Chamoun directed major films focused on women and their resistance in the face of the Israeli oppression. Wild Flowers: Women of South Lebanon (1987) could be considered as a sister act to Heiny Srour's Leila and the Wolves (1984), in the way that Mai Masri gives us an intimate look inside the experiences lived by guerilla groups of Lebanese and Palestinian women in South Lebanon during the Lebanese Civil War and Israeli occupation. The result is a gentle yet powerful recollection of the fight and the pain lived by those women, contrasted by scenes of joy, desires and creativity captured with compassion and accuracy by Mai Masri's camera.

The screening will be introduced by Dr Kareem Estefan, a writer, editor, and Assistant Professor of Film and Screen Studies at the University of Cambridge. Dr Estefan teaches subjects including Arab cinema, contemporary art and decolonial theory. He is currently writing a book, Portals to Palestine, on witnessing and worldbuilding in Palestinian film and visual culture.

Foragers: Jumanna Manna’s film depicting the dramas and stories around the practice of foraging for wild edible plants in Palestine, with wry humour and a meditative pace.

Shot in the Golan Heights, the Galilee and Jerusalem, it moves between fiction, documentary and archival footage to portray the impact of Israeli nature protection laws on these customs. The restrictions prohibit the collection of the artichoke-like ’akkoub and za’atar (thyme), and have resulted in fines and trials for hundreds caught collecting these native plants. For Palestinians, these laws constitute an ecological veil for legislation that further alienates them from their land while Israeli state representatives insist on their scientific expertise and duty to protect.

Screening in collaboration with @thegardencinema on Saturday the 5th of April - LINK IN BIO. The film will be introduced by filmmaker Zeina Ramadan.

The ticket price includes a cup of Palestinian sage tea, courtesy of Kaf of Palestine.

Screened in collaboration with AWAN, The Garden Cinema and the Independent Film Association as part of the Garden Cinema’s Planting Seeds strand, which explores issues around nature and environmental activism. by @filmsofresistance_
