POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

📽️ On 5th June, we're excited to bring you a programme curated by filmmaker @reemjub "Cinematic Rebellion: From Los Angeles to Palestine"

In times of rising fascism and needless war, artists turn to cinema as a weapon of self‑expression, community, and resistance. Ours is not the first generation to seek healing through film, but we hope it will be the last that must. This programme honours the L.A. Rebellion, the group of African‑American filmmakers who rejected Hollywood’s constraints during an era of uprising and instead built a cinematic language rooted in liberation and community care.

We bring together two films, L.A REBELLION: A CINEMATIC MOVEMENT (2025, 56min) and DON'T BE LONG, LITTLE BIRD (2025, 23min), to illuminate the lineage between the original L.A.Rebellion artists and contemporary Palestinian filmmaker Reem Jubran, who continues that legacy today. Together, these works create a dialogue across generations, geographies, and liberation movements.

The screenings will be followed by a panel discussion with director, Reem Jubran and guests.

🗓️ Fri 5 June, 8:15pm
🔗 Book tickets via @arthousecrouchend

This programme is presented by @reemjub, @mominswaitat and supported by @filmsofresistance_

Join us for a screening of Dégradé 🎬

by twin brothers Arab and Tarzan Nasser (
@arab_nasser88 | @tarzan.nasser

Set entirely inside a women’s hair salon in Gaza, Dégradé follows a group of women trapped for thirteen hours as
violence erupts outside. Blending realism with dark humor, the film offers a powerful portrait of the political, social, and economic pressures shaping everyday life in Gaza—and the increasingly limited spaces available to women.

Starring acclaimed Palestinian actor and filmmaker Hiam Abbass, Dégradé marked an early milestone in the Nasser brothers’ internationally celebrated careers. Their later works include Gaza Mon Amour (NETPAC Award, TIFF 2020) and Once Upon a Time in Gaza (Best Director, Un Certain Regard, Cannes 2025).

A decade after its release, we revisit Dégradé in light of Gaza’s ongoing realities. The screening will be preceded by an introduction from Palestinian filmmaker Said Zagha (@said.zagha) and artist Aser El Saqqa (@aserelsaqqa) from Arts Canteen.

Proceeds support the Jenin Cultural Tour campaign.

Thank you to everyone who came to The Films of Resistance screening.

The films offered a stark glimpse into life under genocide and occupation. Deep thanks to Naji Bakhti and Abla Kandalaft for leading an insightful discussion and sharing how their lived experiences fuel their resistance and their drive to protect these stories.

Cinema can only offer a glimpse of growing up under such conditions. As Naji reminded us: the world once claimed it didn’t know — now there is no excuse. We witness ongoing horrors, and we must act.

Boycott Israeli goods. Maintain political pressure. Stay visible. Fundraise for groups working on the ground in Gaza.

Together we raised over £400 to support Palestinian filmmakers and the Sameer Project in Gaza, providing food, tents, tarps, and dry bedding.

Special thanks to @aradgoch

Thank you for standing in solidarity.

CYMRAEG

Diolch i bawb a ddaeth i’r dangosiad The Films of Resistance.

Roedd y ffilmiau’n rhoi cipolwg chwerw ar fyw drwy ladd-gyfansoddiadol a meddiannaeth. Diolch o galon i Naji Bakhti ac Abla Kandalaft am arwain trafodaeth ddeallusol ac am rannu sut mae eu profiadau’n tanio eu gwrthwynebiad ac yn gyrru eu hangen i ddiogelu’r straeon hyn.

Dim ond cipolwg y gall sinema ei roi ar dyfu i fyny o dan yr amodau hyn. Fel y dywedodd Naji: doedd dim esgus o’r blaen — ac nid oes un nawr. Rydym yn tystio’r erchyllterau parhaus, ac mae’n rhaid i ni weithredu.

Gwrthodwch nwyddau Israel. Cynhaliwch bwysau gwleidyddol. Arhoswch yn weladwy. Codwch arian ar gyfer grwpiau sy’n gweithio yn Gaza.

Fe godon ni dros £400 i gefnogi ffilmwyr Palesteinaidd a’r Sameer Project, gan ddarparu bwyd, pebyll a dillad gwely sych.

Diolch arbennig i Arad Goch.

Diolch am sefyll mewn undod.
