This will be our final show of the year and a particularly memorable one, in a stunning setting in one of Ireland’s most creative and inspiring cities. The Funflower Portal is an interactive art installation powered by @touchdesigner that lets users play music and control video footage collaboratively Three people at a time can stand in front of a sensor and each of them can control a timelapse of plants growing with their left hand and their own arpeggiated sequence of musical bells playing in Ableton with their right hand. I had massive help from @alihesnan, @laura_aura__ , and Mark Hatton making and paper macheing on the hottest day of the year (míle buíochas!) as well as on-site assistance from Garreth from the build crew at this years' magical @ealulegra festival! Our Funeral for Ashes project last year was the pilot research case study that has laid the groundwork for the Galway International Arts Festival carbon footprinting programme Initially a commentary on the destruction of Irish woodlands due to negligence from Coillte and or government, I'm pleased to see the work is also contributing to a wider conversation on climate action and the arts. Some clips of my work with SYNAESTHESIA earlier this month. What a beautiful show! It has genuinely been such an honour to work with such talented artists, and I'm looking forward to our upcoming dates later in the year. For now, just a post to showcase some of the tech: - Arduino laser harp controlling visual effects and scene changes in the projected images, all of which were made in #touchdesigner - The harp is also sending MIDI signals from TouchDesigner to Ableton, allowing me to play music with it - Gesture controlling footage (left hand making the sun rise, right hand growing a plant) was also handled in TouchDesigner and with an Orbbec Femto Bolt camera @touchdesigner is the common thread here as per usual! Thanks a million to @eg_explores for taking these videos 🙏🙏 We have more lovely footage and photos to share from the show, and more dates planned. The Lost Songs returns to The Mick Lally Theatre on 18 April — a true story of ransomware, loss, and the long road back to stolen music. In 2017, a hard drive of original recordings was locked by the GandCrab virus. A frantic attempt to recover them led into the dark web and an emptied bank account days before Christmas. Instead of celebrating, Christmas Day became a rebuild‑from‑memory marathon. Those tracks stayed sealed away until 2021, when new decryption tools finally cracked them open. This performance brings that journey to the stage through storytelling, sound, audience participation, brand‑new live visuals by Conor Maloney, and a short live band set to close the night. Aligning the diodes on my DIY laser harp which I'll be using in Friday's performance with @synaesthesia.live ! The harp uses lasers instead of conventional strings and can play audio as well controlling images and 3D models in our projected visuals. I'm using an #arduino microcontroller board as the brain, sending MIDI out of #touchdesigner into #ableton and also controlling the light thresholds from my phone using Open Stage Control. This is just one small element of what's going to be an action-packed show featuring many different disciplines from live painting, live electronic music, gongs, drumming, singing, Irish spoken word poetry, and live audioreactive visuals controlled by physical gestures in front of camera sensors.
