Another hotel room floor.
Before I’ve even had a shower.
I’m picking up my direct line to God...

The word ā€˜spirit’ comes from the Latin ā€˜spiritus.’

It means ā€œto breatheā€.

In Sanskrit we call it ā€˜PRANA’. The life force moving through you with every breath you take.

So every time you breathe, you’re touching spirit.
God moving in you.
Your breath is literally the life force keeping you alive.

That’s your direct connection to God.

And the more you pick up the line, the stronger the connection gets.
The clearer you receive the messages.
The more certain you are about your path.

You don’t need a temple or a church.
You don’t need fancy clothes or even a yoga mat.

This is yours to discover.
Whether on a layover, in a dingy hotel room, or sitting in comfort of your home…

You just need to know how to tune in.

Ancient Breathing 2.0 is open now and you can start practising today.

Live classes begin this Sunday, October 18th, so this is the last week to join and be there with us live for the first class.

You came to yoga for transformation.
So why does your practice look exactly like a workout?

More strength, more flexibility, one more posture to master...
And the part that actually changes you, your breath and your energy body, gets five minutes at the end.
If that.
A strong body is a beautiful thing.
It just won’t transform you on its own.

If you’re ready to practise the part that does, Ancient Breathing 2.0 is open now and live classes start October 18th.

So many of us were taught to treat the body like a tool... something to push,
fix and get more out of,
and then we wonder why it stops cooperating.

This week on Finding Harmony Podcast @findingharmonypodcast our guest Lori James talks about Somatic Experiencing.

Learn what becomes possible when you stop trying to dominate your body and start listening to it.

What happens when you bring embodiment and intention into the way you live inside yourself?

The body changes when it feels safe enough to.

New episode is out now šŸŽ§

Trauma doesn’t always stay in the past. Sometimes it moves into the body and stays there for years.

In this episode, Lori James and I talk about somatic experiencing and the many ways that held trauma shows up, like tension that never quite lets go or a gut that’s always on edge. An exhaustion that sleep doesn’t touch.

So often we never connect the dots, because whatever happened feels so far behind us...

We also talk about what it takes for the body to feel safe enough to finally let it move.

Full episode is up now on Finding Harmony Podcast šŸŽ§

I sat down with my old friends from Mysore, Harmony Slater and Russell Case, on the Finding Harmony Podcast.

When I was seventeen, my brother took his life by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. I didn't let myself feel that grief for decades. I achieved my way around it instead.

That's what The Performance Trap is about. Very early, we learn that to belong, we need to be different from who we actually are. So we develop our own forms of performance, whether it's achievement, being the one everyone can lean on, or being stoic. It keeps us connected. And underneath, we override an ache.

My Ashtanga practice just happened to be one of the places I did it. In our conversation, we talk about how something with amazing potential can also become a place to hide, until the body says no. Mine did at 50.

Where do you perform to keep your place?

The Performance Trap: The Ache No Success Will Ever Fix is out now. Link in bio.

Day 8 of 100 Days of Embodiment

Sitting on the airport floor before my red-eye to Philadelphia tonight, and I know exactly how this goes if I don’t take care of myself first... the broken sleep, the dry air, landing in the early morning and walking into a room of people who’ve come to learn from me when my body hasn’t caught up yet.

So before I board, I drop in.
A few rounds of pranayama, right here on the floor.

The breath is the one practice I can take anywhere, at any hour, without a mat or a quiet room, and it’s what lets me land feeling like myself, with my energy still my own.

If you’re the one who gives everything to the people in front of you and then wonders why there’s nothing left by the time you get home, this is where I’d start.

You don’t have to wait for the perfect conditions to feel good in your body.

Comment BREATHE and I’ll send you everything you need to know.

When people talk about what went wrong in the Ashtanga world, the conversation usually goes straight to Pattabhi Jois.

Our dear friend Chad Herst said something in this episode that very few people in our community are willing to say out loud. He didn’t need Guruji to mess him up.

šŸ‘‰šŸ½ He brought his patterns into the practice himself, and all the practice did was show him what had been sitting underneath the whole time.

That’s a hard thing to hear, and for Chad it was also where the real healing began.

In the full conversation he shares what it took to finally see it, from a body that refused to cooperate to a grief he didn’t let himself feel until he turned fifty.

The full episode is on the Finding Harmony Podcast.

Samadhi is the essence of union, the essence of yoga.
It’s the whole reason we practise any of the other limbs… to enter into a state that is beyond the mind, beyond the self, beyond the ego, beyond your personality, and jump into the ocean and dissolve and become the ocean. 🌊

The word comes from root ā€œsamā€, meaning ā€œtogetherā€ or ā€œcompleteā€ and the root ā€œdhiā€, meaning ā€œto placeā€ or ā€œto holdā€ (the mind).
šŸ‘‰šŸ½ Holding the mind together, until the one meditating, the meditation and what you’re focusing on all become one. šŸ§˜šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

It’s the last of the eight limbs, and yet it’s the doorway into the inner path of yoga.

So how do I live that day to day?
My morning pranayama and meditation sessions let things drop away so that there’s only listening.

And during the day I practise elemental embodiment, which is another way of listening, to my body, beyond my thoughts, and tuning into what’s present — to the sensations and inner guide.

šŸ’ƒšŸ¼ Choose your favourite limb and share why it resonates with you. ✨

šŸ§ššŸ»The video of me in slide2 says:
ā€œThere is no ego, there is no personality, there is no you.
There is only pure consciousness, pure awareness.ā€
✨This is the essence of Samadhi.✨

There was a pose I used to be known for.
My body doesn’t do it anymore.

For a long time I grieved that quietly, like something was being taken from me. Like the practice was leaving me behind.

But the body was never the point.

So much of what we were handed in Ashtanga came wrapped in fear. Push through the pain. The teacher knows your body better than you do.
That isn’t devotion.
It’s a toxic relationship with authority, dressed up as discipline.

The way I teach now is different.
Your body becomes the teacher.
You meet the method with curiosity instead of obedience, and you let the practice change as you change.

You are not the shape you can still make.
You never were.

šŸŽ§The full conversation that opened all this up is on Confessions of a Freebird with @laurie.james, listen wherever you stream podcasts.✨

šŸ§˜šŸ¼And if you want to practice this way with me, here’s where you’ll find me:
šŸ“ Philadelphia, Oct 2–4ā€ØšŸ“ Hickory, North Carolina, Nov 30–Dec 3ā€ØšŸ“ Washington, DC, Dec 11–13

I’d love to support you in your healing & awakening. by @findingharmonypodcast

Most of how we react, snapping at the people we love or saying ā€œI’m fineā€ when we’re not, is running underneath our awareness… patterns and emotions we picked up so long ago that they just feel like who we are.

And we can live out of them for years without realising, making the same choices, having the same arguments, wondering why things keep feeling the same no matter how hard we try.

When we start to bring awareness to what’s moving below the surface, feeling it in the body, breathing into it, getting curious about it instead of judging it, something begins to loosen, and you find you have a little more room to choose how you respond, which is where the freedom really starts.

This Sunday I’m teaching a masterclass on exactly this, and I’d love for you to be there.

Somewhere along the way, the practice that was meant to bring you home to your body started to feel like one more place you weren’t getting it right…

The bind you still can’t catch, the count running in your head, the mornings you skip and then quietly judge yourself for skipping, all of it adding up until you’re not sure anymore whether you love this practice or just feel like you owe it something.

I know that place well, and it’s a big part of why I teach the way I do now.

Next weekend in Philadelphia, October 2 to 4, we’ll be practising Ashtanga without the dogma, coming back into the body with curiosity, feeling what’s actually happening instead of forcing the shape, and letting the relationship you have with your practice, and with yourself, begin to soften and heal.

You don’t have to be flexible or consistent to come.

You just have to be a little curious about what it would feel like to practise in a way that’s kind to you.

The weekend is at @mysoreyogaphilly drop us a DM and we’ll send you the link to save your spot!

New episode: the nurse whose intuition switched on at a bedside — and never switched off.

Marie Manuchehri spent her days as an oncology nurse on an inpatient floor, where patients stayed for months and many of them didn’t leave.

She describes hospitals not as places of dread but as hubs of transformational light — souls arriving, souls departing, and an enormous amount of love moving through the building.

She loved it there. That turns out to matter more than anything else in her story!
