Butterfly Jacket 🦋 Fundraiser for Gaza

Using a second-hand denim jacket as a canvas, @fioikeue painted Old World swallowtails — a species found in Palestine and all over the world. This one-of a-kind wearable art piece is modeled by @stevieyaaaay and is ready to fly to one of you!

How to enter:

Make a donation at the link in @fioikeue bio and DM her to send a screenshot of your donation receipt. A donation of $10 is one entry. A donation of $25 is three entries.

I’m slowly painting a wearable art piece to raffle for Palestine. It will feature this butterfly which is found worldwide, including Gaza. I’m not sure if they still fly there now, over all the rubble, but I paint this with so much hope in my heart for a future where butterflies and Palestinians alike will flourish.

As the universe would have it, after I decided to paint this species (old world swallowtail) my son and I were gifted a bunch of caterpillars to raise. They turned out to be the same butterfly 🥹 by @fioikeue

Something about the application of colored pencil strokes on paper really helps me to process grief and anger. The world feels heavy. And yet this hummingbird reminds me to feel light once again so I can show up in the best way I can.

My first wearable art piece, “Moss” 🐸

When I used to teach English here in Japan I would hear the national anthem “kimigayo” played at school ceremonies. I always got the chills though I had no clue what the words meant. It was so short and dramatic - a stark contrast to the long, celebratory anthem of the U.S. I researched its lyrics recently and was blown away by its simplicity and use of imagery from the natural world to depict endurance and the passing of time:

“May your reign
Continue for a thousand, eight thousand generations
Until the tiny pebbles
Grow into massive boulders
Lush with moss”
