It's spring and that means migration! I created Ink Dwell in 2012 as an art studio dedicated to exploring the wonders of the natural world and part of that exploration includes exhibit illustration and imagery. This is one of my favorite types of commissions. I love nature centers and the supportive role imagery plays in audience experience and engagement. We are pleased to share some murals we created for the @rowesanctuary in Nebraska. The space and exhibit were designed by @edxseattle. Our murals highlight sandhill cranes descending onto the Platte River and the seasonal changes of Nebraska's tall prairie ecosystem. The center is taking reservations now to witness the great Sandhill Crane migration. Can't wait to one day visit! This week we’ll be sharing some alumni work, starting with UNDER THE BAY, a puzzle highlighting the San Francisco Bay’s underwater creatures. It was illustrated by Fiorella Ikeue (@fioikeue, class of 2017) commissioned by @sfbaykeeper and made by @oaklandpuzzle. Baykeeper uses science, advocacy, and law to hold polluters accountable, stop destructive activities, and protect communities, ecosystems and wildlife. Happy Earth Day today, and every day! 🌏🌿🐝🌷🌵🌺🍀 Thank you to @fioikeue for this gorgeous pollinator art & to @denverbotanic for these tips on how to care for our dear friends, the pollinators! 🌿🌻Make your garden welcoming for pollinators year-round!🍂🍄 🌸Plant early and late season flowers to provide food when fewer plants are in bloom. Pulsatilla (Pasque flower), Phlox subulata (creeping phlox), Nepeta (catmint), Papaver (poppies) and Penstemon give early season sustenance. Late season food comes from Symphyotrichum (asters), Helenium (sneezeweed), Salvia and Solidago (goldenrod). ✂️Cut your garden back in spring. 🐝Native bees nest in dead limbs, branches and the hollows of the dried stems of flowering perennials. Meet our friend @fioikeue! We’re so excited to have her beautiful Shark posters. A little about her work: Based out of Oakland, her eye-catching and intimate work aims to connect the viewer with aspects of nature, scientific ideas and environmental issues. She currently works as an artist assistant and illustrator at Ink Dwell studio and as a freelance illustrator. Learn more about her work at fiorellaikeue.com Suggested Donation: $15-$20 The poster include species of sharks, rays & skates that live in the Bay Area and nearby marine sanctuaries (including SC!) The posters are printed on 100% recycled paper, and each species’ common name is hand-written with archival ink.

FIREFLIES!!! I have been living in the Bay Area now for 17 years, but I grew up in the Chicagoland Area and chasing fireflies was one of my very favorite summertime activities. So when our partner @xercessociety reached out to our studio about illustrating their new Firefly Conservation brochure, I was as giddy as I was the first time I saw one slowly float by. --- Did you know that there are more than 2,000 species of fireflies?!?! A little sneak peek of our Earth Day iron on decal on my favorite vintage tee. This collab is with the amazing artist @fioikeue . We wanted to highlight just a handful of the critically endangered species we share this planet so it can be a reminder everyday to fight for them - 100% profits will go directly to an organization that are on the front lines of saving these species but here’s what has been difficult:. ☄️ If we produced them on organic cotton/bamboo/hemp new tees it would be taking too many resources to create all of them and we don’t think the earth can afford this. We can do better. ☄️Sourcing hundreds of vintage white tees has been so hard (still something we want to do in the future) but I’ve only saved 30 and they’ve been so expensive! We didn’t want to have to increase the prices to cover costs and now corona makes it difficult to find a screen press open and ready. 🌈YAY! We found that if we do iron on decals, you will be able to put them on ANYTHING you own already! Shirts, denim, totes, blankets, you name it! The only downside is the thin plastic backing and the decal is not compostable because of durability purposes! We find this to be the best option but if anyone has any recommendations of iron on compostable yet LONG LASTING decals let us know! We want you to own this piece forever! 😍😍🌈🌈 more details soon on how to get ready to purchase on earth day and what organizations the funds will go to! #yayforearth

Remember our red-tailed hawk that gave us a close visit? He keeps coming back!! The other day he landed ~5ft away from me on the swing stage, and he stuck around for me and @fioikeue to get this family photo with him 💕💕💕 Have any of you ever seen a raptor so comfortable around humans?? . . P.S. I’m working on a lil birding journal of all the crazy birds we’ve seen up on this #MigratingMural, so stay tuned 🌚🌝
