Guess you could say I’m a bit hamstrung at the moment…

Went to the Steadman Clinic in Vail last week for a proximal hamstring repair surgery. An MRI at the end of September showed that the old partial tear I got leading into Boston had turned into a fully retracted tendon tear on the left side, so surgery was the next logical step. I’m grateful to all the medical professionals and my team for helping me access the best care. It’s going to be a long road back, but I’m looking forward to the small milestones along the way. Thanks to all my family & friends who have been in my corner all this time. by @fiona_okeeffe

As professional athletes, it’s a delicate balance between pushing ourselves and reading our bodies. Coming to the end of this build I was in great shape (maybe my best ever) and so excited to be part of the stellar women’s field assembled this year. Some pretty gnarly hamstring pain popped up in the last couple weeks, and imaging here in Boston showed a partial tear of my left hamstring tendon. With that, I’m sad to say that I’ve withdrawn from this year’s Boston Marathon.

I am so grateful to Mary Kate and @teambaa for their understanding and care with my situation, and I can’t wait to come back to Boston when I am ready to line up and race to the best of my abilities. I want to thank the doctors and physios who squeezed me into their schedules this week to figure out what was going on and do everything we could to try to problem-solve and get me on that start line.

Last, I want to thank my sponsor Puma, my coaches and team @pumaeliterunning , @kimbiaathletics, and my family and friends for all their support.

Sending my best to everyone racing on Monday. May the wind be always at your back! by @fiona_okeeffe

🎧 NEW EPISODE ALERT! 🚨 EPISODE 165: From First Marathon to Olympic Trials Champion. Fiona O’Keeffe.

In this episode of RUNWITHALLI LIVE, I sit down with @fiona_okeeffe O’Keeffe, Olympic Marathon Trials champion!

She didn’t just win. She won her FIRST. EVER. MARATHON.
Go girl! And she shares so many powerful insights and lessons with us in today’s episode.

We’re talking about what it really takes to:

✨ Take the leap into the unknown
✨ Trust your training
✨ Show up confident, even when you’re not sure what’s possible yet

We dive into:

-Her mindset during that breakthrough Trials win
-The power of a “nothing to lose” mentality
-Transitioning from Stanford to pro running
-Realistic vs. “perfect” training weeks
-First marathon advice
-How to level up your performance
-Staying strong when it gets HARD mid-race

You don’t need certainty. You need COURAGE and self-belief.
Confidence is built through ACTION.

With the @bostonmarathon this Monday, I’m SO excited to watch Fiona and the rest of the field throw down!!!! 👀🔥

Grateful she took time out of a hectic marathon build to have this conversation. It means the world. She is one of the sweetest, kindest humans, and I look forward to many more chats with her in the future!

🗣️ “Sometimes you have these workouts on paper that look pretty intimidating. To be able to get them done and feel strong towards the end of them is always an exciting feeling. Obviously you don’t always nail it, but doing things that maybe you haven’t done before or that you’re not quite sure if you can do is always exciting.”

@fiona_okeeffe joins the CITIUS MAG Podcast to reflect on finishing 4th at the @nycmarathon against one of the deepest fields ever assembled + clocking a 2:22:49 for the fastest-ever by an American woman on that course.

She opens up about the devastating injury at the Paris Olympics that forced her to drop out of the race after just one mile and how she also handled the public’s reaction to it. She needed time away from the sport before rebuilding with intention.

And now, she’s reminded the world of her great potential at the marathon distance.

It’s already a blur, but thank you NYC❣️

I truly loved racing through the five boroughs feeding off the energy of the city and the amazing field @nyrr brought together this year! To everyone that’s believed in me over the last year (& more) to get here, I’m so grateful. The amount of support I felt out there was incredible. My heart is ready for more marathon now, but the legs are saying we need to chill first 😅

Also, I’m stoked to be representing @protectourwinters on race day—be sure to check out the work they’re doing if you haven’t already!

Olympian @fiona_okeeffe joined us for @nyrr plogging two days before the TCS @nycmarathon and went on to run 2:22 as first American woman across the line on Sunday.

Coincidence? We think not.

Could that be the secret? ;) or could it be that Fiona is a passionate environmental advocate who knows that blending your passion and your craft can lead to some amazing things.

Maybe plogging is the perfect pre race shakeout. See you out there soon? by @fiona_okeeffe
