I am the chorus of "The Fate" by @marc_codsi ❤️‍🔥

You should have known..

This is Mirror, the most exquisite cat I have ever encountered

While my dearest friend endures the violence inflicted on Beirut, while the Forest of Fontainebleau—and forests everywhere I love to wander—are burning, while animals, fungi, insects and plants perish in flames or from drought, while Hexagonal France still fails to fully acknowledge the devastating legacy of chlordecone poisoning in Gwadloup and Matinik, while AI and data centres consume water and leave pollution in their wake, we continue to search for, and reveal, the world's tenderness

In The Fate, I sing the chorus like a darker Jiminy Cricket: an inner voice that hesitates, whispers the cost of exile, and remembers what is lost when one leaves home. It repeats, insistently :

You should have known

It is, by turns, Hegel's Owl of Minerva, Jung's Shadow, and Hannah Arendt's meditation on exile and the loss of a common world. Not simply as a reproach, but as the chilling truth of displacement. One may leave Beirut to survive political violence, yet the sea, the light, the streets and landscapes that shaped us continue to inhabit us

You should have known

And yet I also hear Nietzsche's amor fati: not the passive acceptance of fate, but the courage to love what has happened to us, including our wounds, our absences and our longing. To transform exile from a negation of oneself into a painful and beautiful way of continuing to love the place that made us taken in Beirut, Lebanon by @fionavalentinethomann
