I’m happy to introduce ‘My fate’
A new song from a personal side project where I took a mic and an old Casio keyboard to see what would happen
The collection of songs that followed accompanied me in a transformative phase of my life

Thanks to @chacha_music__prod for the fun shoot
@sophieberrebiauthor for the special appearance
And @fionavalentinethomann for lending me her voice

Have you ever felt you don’t live in the right place ?

‘My Fate’ follows a cat/human character who believes he has missed his life because he lives far from the sea.
The other cats, like a choir in Ancient Greek theater, remind him of his fate , waving away his life choices.

All the cats are real and come from encounters by the sea

Any resemblance to actual person or events is purely coincidental

*New addition* to our Radiance VR App 😎 @f iconic work from 2017, „Tracker“. Watch it now for free on our App until May 25, 2025 🚀🌎

Thomann’s work immerses individuals into the world of VR and explores the mental and sculptural characteristics of the mind within dreamlike surroundings.

‘Tracker’ is comprised of the first 360 video recordings of space done by NASA from the ISS (International Space Ship). This original, ready-made 360 video gives us a view of the earth from space. The audio component of the work is a recording of the VR experience that Thomann recorded using the app. Astronaut VR. It emulates the sound of breathing through an oxygen mask in digital outer space. By placing an emphasis on sound, the artist questions the position of the human body within a VR context.

Fiona Valentine Thomann creates different dimensions to her artworks by using various tools for her immersive drawing_in_space installations, such as augmented reality 3D model, VR video, application, software, painting, print, sculpture, smartphones, etc.. Thomann obtained her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, France. She studied at CAFA in Beijing, China, at HEAD in Genève, Switzerland, at the Kuvat Academy in Helsinski, Finland, and at Josefina Conte in Argentina.

Reliving the UtOpium…

How can obsession transform a utopia into a dystopia? What form would your artificial paradise take?

UtOpium explored the intersection of ideals, artifacts, and transformation through a diverse range of artworks—from the symbolic power of ancestral relics to contemporary takes on perception and reality. A mix of mediums, histories, and narratives revealed how art reflects our ongoing pursuit of utopia and the tension between dreams and reality.

Let’s look at the highlights, where the ephemeral became tangible and the unattainable was brought to life.

THANK YOU for joining us in this exploration of art, obsession, and desire.

GESTE Paris UtOpium, curated by Shin-Dō, ARTIST SPOTLIGHT:

“Plantes Psychoactives” by Fiona Valentine Thomann delves into perception, consciousness, and ecological connections through four compelling works.

ARTWORKS:
⁃ Les Dauphins Roses (2023-2024) immerses the viewer in an aquatic vision of pink dolphins, symbolizing the bond between humans and ecosystems, while a black smartphone represents a closed door. A pufferfish and the rabbit-duck motif invite contemplation of shared altered states with dolphins and provoke reflections on the nature of reality.

⁃ Los Niños (2023-2024) critiques the pharmaceutical appropriation of psychoactive plants and explores multiple realities, featuring Mayan-inspired figures and the psilocybin molecule. Belladone Molécule (2023-2024) challenges perception with a smartphone and a bird eating belladonna berries, questioning the familiar and the forbidden, while snails challenge our notions of time. The rabbit-duck motif invites reconsideration of perception itself.

⁃ Thomann’s Fluoxetine versus Los Niños (Naturalist versus Animist Series) contrasts the chemical and the spiritual, using reclaimed materials like food-grade wood and silk velvet, along with pharmaceutical packaging and an engraving of fluoxetine on an aluminum pill blister. This piece highlights the clash between modern pharmaceuticals and ancient, animist perspectives on healing.

⁃ A video montage of the Atlantic Forest, plants, leaves, and mirrors deepens Thomann’s exploration of ecological connections and perception, set to an interview with anthropologist Jeremy Narby.

GESTE Paris UtOpium, curated by Shin-Dō, ARTIST SPOTLIGHT:

In the spring of 2024, Robin Chiphowka Kowspi and Agatoak Ronny Kowspi were invited by The Mariwai Project to TMP’s Paris-based studio to create new work in collaboration with local Parisian artists. Together, they formed a new body of work under the French branch of The Kwoma Kollective: Kwoma Kollective x Paris. The collaboration results in powerful works blending Papua New Guinea traditional and contemporary techniques with Paris based artists trained in the western tradition. Two examples: Black Smoke is a conceptual painting by SLB using modernist brushstrokes to references the point of view restricted by “black smoke” the common phrase describing cataracts that obscure vision. Les Trois Mamelles, emphasises more dimensional European styles through acrylic and oil on canvas and wood panel, themes of nature, cultural identity, ancestral wisdom, and the intergenerational knowledge that shape community. The collaborative nature of Kwoma Kollective x Paris practice, where each artist contributes their skills and insights, brings forth a vibrant conversation across time and distance. Included artists Shiva Lynn Burgos, Robin Chiphowka Kowspi, Agatoak Ronny Kowspi, Julie Giblot Ducray, Naomi B Cook, and Fiona Valentine Thomann.

On November 8, 2024, the works of eight artists were submerged into the fluid dialogue of the Fontaine des Fleuves at Place de la Concorde. This exhibition marks the beginning of a series where water serves as both material and prism, unveiling layers invisible to the naked eye while confronting us with the ephemerality and imprint of time.

Today, we highlight Shiva Lynn Burgos (@geste.paris). Through her cyanotypes, she conjures hidden memories, capturing the residual energy of ritual objects in deep blue tones. Her Mariwai Project (@the.mariwai.project), rooted in collaborations in Papua New Guinea, resonates like a net cast into the murky waters of the past, where memory, spirituality, and transmission converge.

Displaying these works beneath the fountain’s cascading water, where rivers entwine with the city’s symbols, invites us to interrogate the power dynamics of such monumental spaces. What narratives surface when colonial histories intermingle with our saturated present? How does memory absorb itself into a medium as elusive as water? And what remains of a symbol as it dissolves within the perpetual motion of the elements?
