Is anybody here? Is an assemblage of works across various mediums from Video and photography to mixed media. It is an attempt to explore new ways of seeing things. Entirely shattered and only connected through their context, almost everything remains blurred even within its narration. These are some views of the works.

Produced during a residency with @mouhit.space and hosted at @latelier.selmaferiani

𝐎𝐏𝐄𝐍 𝐒𝐓𝐔𝐃𝐈𝐎 - 𝐅𝐈𝐑𝐀𝐒 𝐁𝐄𝐍 𝐀𝐋𝐈
On view from September 4 to 7

Mouhit Space and L’atelier Salma Feriani are happy to invite you to the opening of Firas Ben Ali ‘s (@firasbenali_ ) end of residency presentation at L’atelier by Selma Feriani on September 4 from 7pm to 9pm.

After two months of residency at Mouhit, Firas shares the work and explorations that emerged during that time, in “Is Anybody Here ?”, an Open Studio hosted at L’Atelier Selma Feriani.

Looking back on his time in residency, he writes:

“I sat on the floor, facing a white piece of paper and many photographs, both mine and my mother’s.

Through printing and drawing, I explored, failed, and sometimes stumbled upon a stunt!, like a newborn. During these long, solitary summer nights, hidden faces and places emerged from the ink on the surface, or from a fragment in a video forming a dreamscape, or perhaps a memoryscape.

I was mapping my poor memory through these photographs, the kind that seems to fail me almost every time. But sometimes, I do remember. Emotivity comes back. And I find myself looking for something. A question comes to mind:

Is anybody here?”

Through video, photography archives, and drawing, Firas Ben Ali explores a fragmented universe where memory and dreamscape overlap dissolved and blurred, disfigured and constantly transforming.

My heart is melting with this.
This is home. I was raised between these mountains, raised by the toughest yet warm hearted people. Everywhere I look, I used to see mountains. bigger than everything I thought I knew. A mountain as vast as the dreams and ambitions I carried when I left ten years ago. I now return with the love I held all these years, buried deep in my memories. To find the same love held and received . 🫂🗝️ AAAAAAAHHHHHHH by @firasbenali_

We are very excited to announce a new residency exchange between Mouhit (Tunisia) and Vertygo (Italy).

This partnership will allow both our organizations to work towards more mobility for artists, curators and writers, for them to work between contexts, and to spend time in different environments.

The first Tunisian resident to join Vertygo through this program is Firas Ben Ali, a multidisciplinary filmmaker and visual artist based in Tunis whose work spans from experimental cinema, photography and video installation.

From the 9th to the 22nd of May, Firas will develop a new project which will be presented both at Vertygo and later on at Mouhit. by @firasbenali_
