In Mahdia, Tunisia, I embark on an intimate journey through the ancestral customs that have shaped my life, exploring matrimonial traditions, and highlighting the Henna, where the bewitching songs of the Machtat resound. Tracing my childhood memories, guided by Latifa and Habiba, two prominent Machtat, I uncover the maternal essence of tradition, where the bond between mother and bride is at the heart of these intimate celebrations.

Mouhit Space and L’atelier Salma Feriani are happy to invite you to the opening of Firas Ben Ali ‘s (@firasbenali_ ) end of residency presentation at L’atelier by Selma Feriani on September 4 from 7pm to 9pm.

After two months of residency at Mouhit, Firas shares the work and explorations that emerged during that time, in “Is Anybody Here ?”, an Open Studio hosted at L’Atelier Selma Feriani.

Looking back on his time in residency, he writes:

“I sat on the floor, facing a white piece of paper and many photographs, both mine and my mother’s.

Through printing and drawing, I explored, failed, and sometimes stumbled upon a stunt!, like a newborn. During these long, solitary summer nights, hidden faces and places emerged from the ink on the surface, or from a fragment in a video forming a dreamscape, or perhaps a memoryscape.

I was mapping my poor memory through these photographs, the kind that seems to fail me almost every time. But sometimes, I do remember. Emotivity comes back. And I find myself looking for something. A question comes to mind:

Is anybody here?”

Through video, photography archives, and drawing, Firas Ben Ali explores a fragmented universe where memory and dreamscape overlap dissolved and blurred, disfigured and constantly transforming.

@SceneNoise: Following her debut single ‘Shameless,’ singer-songwriter Eman Alali has returned with a more introspective offering. Her second single, ‘Packing Away,’ serves as a vulnerable exploration of heartbreak, marking a transition point in her evolving musical identity.

While the London-based, Saudi-Iranian singer’s debut established a presence, ‘Packing Away’ leans into the painful beauty of closure, focusing less on the act of someone leaving and more on the internal unpacking that follows. Alali describes the song as a dual mourning process: letting go of a partner, and letting go of the version of oneself that existed within that relationship.

Musically, the track sits at a hazy intersection of indie-folk and dream pop, anchored by delicate acoustic guitar. It builds into a richer, more atmospheric sound through layered electric guitar swells, grounding bass lines and cinematic percussion, creating an intimate yet expansive feel. A simple, lingering video accompanies the track, one shot in Tunis, Tunisia. Directed by Tunisian artist and filmmaker, Firas Ben Ali, it uses the city’s landscape to manifest the song’s themes of departure and self-discovery.

While ‘Packing Away’ comes as another notch on Alali’s growing belt, it’s more important role might be that it is a bridge in her work. According to the artist, it is the final acoustic-threaded release before she pivots toward a bolder, pop-driven direction, both a tender goodbye to her folk roots and a confident step in her journey.

as 2025 comes to a close,
it feels important to express my deepest gratitude to all the inspiring people who shaped it for me, including the many new connections born through music and shared moments that sparked conversations and new perspectives.
i am truly privileged to be surrounded by you, as you constantly pushed me to expand my palette, to never stay still in the same sounds, and to keep seeking new ways of expression, while always staying true to the core.

to the friends who continue to show up with honest and unwavering support,
to the promoters who trusted me with their floors and their visions,
to the labels that handled my music with real care and intention,
to the collaborators who challenged me, inspired me, and shared the process,
to the workers who keep our local nightlife and cultural spaces alive,
and to the people across oceans i’ve yet to meet, whose messages reminded me that the music travels further than i do, thank you.

early 2026 will see the release of a new, more club-oriented track of mine

in the meantime, it would mean a lot to share one final moment together this year on saturday, december 27th at @restaurant_la_gondole_sousse, with @thehamditheryder and myself.
