We had such an amazing weekend! From helping out with the @tnimmigrant / @vecindarios901 tamal making party in our fellowship hall to hosting some of the best chefs and bands in the city to raise money for our food justice efforts!

Thanks especially to @the__gastronaught, @chino_cappucino, @chefkalecarmon for holding down the fort and keeping the soup flowing all night!

And shout-out to the ever-generous @bain.bbq for donating two whole pork shoulders for us to use at the tamal making party! 🙏🐽

We are so excited to partner with a handful of the best chefs and musicians in the city to bring folks together over community, music, and delicious soup to benefit our food justice efforts in Midtown Memphis.

In the wake of a large amount of federal funding cuts to food assistance programs we are growing increasingly reliant on community support in regards to both financial and material donations, and we have been so touched at the response we have received from y'all!

We'll be hosting the event in the sanctuary at 1000 S. Cooper, enter through the front door and park in our south lot

Made a big pot of congee for @firstcongofood to celebrate Lantern Festival(last day of lunar new year)!

If you see my delicious soup posts every week and think "man, I want to try that but don't wanna take away free food from folks that need it" well now is your chance, and it also will help folks that need it!

Soupstock is this Sunday, we got some great musicians playing, and soup from 10 of the best chefs in the city!

Ramadan Mubarak y'all! To celebrate the beginning of the season we have got one of our favorite Arab style stews(and the national dish of Yemen), saltah. It was actually created in the soup kitchens of the Byzantine empire and often made from the leftovers of feasts or iftars and served to folks who were needy or ill.

We made ours with some leftover potatoes donated by @seasons52 as well as some eggs donated by @eat.loaf and ground beef, a ton of aromatics, tomatoes, and a whipped fenugreek condiment known as hulbah.

We are blessed to serve folks from all walks of life at our little community meal and wanted to offer something special to our folks who are about to start fasting that we probably won't see for a month 🩷

We serve a hot meal free to all hungry folks Tuesdays thru Thursdays from 11am to 1pm at 1000 S. Cooper

If you're fasting this month and want to swing by and say hey, bring a small Tupperware with you and we can fill it up for you to take home and break your fast with. We might also have a handful of dates to send home with you too! by @firstcongofood

We are collecting non perishable food items for @firstcongofood. They feed our neighbors and make sure food in our city doesn’t go to waste.

Made some congee for Congo today! If you're not familiar it's a rice porridge common across east Asia, also occasionally called jook/juk or arroz caldo. I made a version with a bunch of hambones leftover from the Thursday holiday meal and a veggie version with dandelion greens and water chestnut. I topped em with a mix of soy sauce, 6 year aged zhenjiang vinegar, and sesame oil along with a slow poached egg and crispy fried onions.

Hey y'all! We are doing our regular holiday meal and pantry together tomorrow! @ish_blanco of @badtimingshop was kind enough to donate all the money we needed for a really nice spread! We'll have brown sugar baked hams and green beans made by our director, @raisinghellandeatingwell as well as some mashed potatoes donated by @seasons52 and some gorgeous turkeys donated by Brad at @bustersbutcher and cooked by our resident chef @chefkalecarmon of @eat.loaf along with some of their famous butternut mac & cheese

The meal is free to all hungry folks, no questions asked! We will also have a bunch of sweet potatoes and greens and cabbage along with our usual offerings for folks who need to come grab some groceries from the pantry! by @firstcongofood

Made some chicken & andouille gumbo for @firstcongofood today using my patented and very stupid quick-roux technique of blasting the roux on high heat and constantly running a wide spatula through the center in a figure 8 and scraping the edges with a long spoon concurrently for 15-20 minutes until you got a deep copper roux that would take your memaw at least 45 minutes.

Free to all hungry folks, no questions asked.

Chef Kale from @eat.loaf made a really tasty soup out of a bunch of leftover pearl barley from their cafe this week, a gorgeous brisket donated from @centralbbq some perfect oyster mushrooms donated from @bluffcityfungi and micro basil donated by @rosecreekfarms

We're so glad to have so many amazing folks in our community whose donations and service keep us going!

We'll be here from 10am to 12pm today, and keep an eye out cause every Tuesday Chef Kale makes a big ol pot of soup. by @firstcongofood
