Some women will never understand the woman I had to become.

I’ve lost a child.
I’ve lost my mother.
I’ve experienced betrayal from people I trusted.
I’ve had my heart broken.
I’ve lost things I thought I would have forever.
And I’ve had to start over more than once.

But somewhere along the way, I realized something powerful:

Nobody was coming to save me. I had to save myself.

And that woman you see today?
She’s not who she is because life was easy.
She’s who she is because she kept getting back up.

“Yesterday I asked you all for words of encouragement because I knew today was going to be a hard day for me. I just want to say THANK YOU to everyone who reached out, prayed for me, sent me love, and shared your own stories with me. ❤️

It ended up being a good day. Not because I didn’t miss my son, because I did… but because I felt surrounded by so much love. Sometimes you don’t realize how much strength you can receive from people who don’t even know you personally.

✨ WHAT A DAY. WHAT A MOMENT. WHAT A BLESSING. ✨

I will forever be grateful to every single person who played a part in making this moment possible. ❤️

I’m just a gurl from the streets of Detroit who found herself standing in a room filled with some of the most incredible and creative people in the world — and I was nominated! 🙏🏽

I didn’t take home the award that night, but let me tell you something… I will always feel like I won. 🏆 Because I was amongst the greats. I made it into that room. I made it to that stage. And considering the life I once lived, not many people can say they made it this far.

My journey is a testimony that God can take you from places you never thought you’d escape and position you in places you never imagined you’d stand.

They may have closed the STARZ door on me… but God opened another one. 🚪✨

And look where He brought me — the 55th NAACP Image Awards, nominated for The First Lady of BMF: The Tonesa Welch Story. ❤️

I’m not bitter about the doors that closed. I’m grateful for every door God continues to open.

I didn’t lose. I evolved. I survived. I persevered. I WON. 🙏🏽👑
