On Saturday 20th May 2023, I officially graduated from the University of Cambridge 🥳💕. I’m beyond thankful for many things and to many people.

As always, I’m about to write an essay 😊.

My grandpa (in the third photo) told me that it’s always been a dream of his to see at least one of his descendants graduate from Oxbridge - well on Saturday, that dream came true!

At the start of my master’s, I would have thought that I’d cherish this moment purely for its academic and professional significance. But now, a year after completing the course, what I value most about this experience was the combination of small joys and small pains that came together to craft a beautiful and intricate milestone - a dual experience that allowed me to learn, unlearn and grow.

One of the greatest but most complex things about Cambridge is the people and whilst it isn’t easy to be black, black-British, and female in Cambridge, one thing that I’ll forever be grateful for are kind souls who were open-minded enough to see me for me. One being my supervisor and then course director, Midge. 🤍

God has a beautiful and intentional way of writing our stories. I’m so thankful that I’ve never felt alone or hopeless even when life is life’ing. I’ve seen firsthand that through grace, all things are possible - dreams can come true 🥹.

p.s to the aunties and uncles who are understandably alarmed by Cambridge graduation tradition, same loooool. But, I reassure you that through prayers and anointing oil, I’m okay, I think lool taken in University of Cambridge by @fisayoe

Hey friends! 🤍 I created a card game for Black women and would love your support in sharing it with the world.

Essay incoming lol.

A few years ago, I started writing letters to a future daughter - perhaps my future daughter. I was confronting the realities of becoming, as a young Black woman: the barriers, prejudice, the disappointments, and the experiences I didn’t yet have the language to name. I knew that one day I’d want to tell a future daughter that she could be anything she wanted to be, but I also knew she would inherit a world that wouldn’t always make that easy. To put it lightly, the reality terrified me.

Those letters became part of my own healing.

Then I realised they weren’t just for her. They were for us, and for our future daughters.

So I created Letters & Crowns: The Game of Healing & Becoming, a card game for Black women, by a Black woman. A tool to name our experiences, tell our stories, laugh, cry, pray, heal, and become together.
