Without a doubt, staying in Japan for two weeks and being able to train alongside my friends at @artabjj_mita_ was the highlight of my trip. Sharing the mats, learning from each other, and spending time together made the entire trip so special. Those experiences and friendships are something I’ll always be grateful for. I’ll definitely miss the hard training! Thank you so much, family. ❤️ taken in ARTA MITA by @fit3jiujitsu

Not the result I came to Japan for, but that’s the reality of competition. Today at the IBJJF Asian Championship 2026, my journey ended in the first round. I lost by 2 points while earning 3 advantages against a truly elite competitor from Japan. It was a close match from start to finish, and I’m proud that I was able to test myself against someone of that level. Sometimes the scoreboard doesn’t go your way, but every tough match is another lesson and another step forward. Looking back, my preparation was going really well. I felt strong, confident, and ready. Unfortunately, about a month before the tournament I injured my back, forcing me to stop training for almost five weeks. It wasn’t the ideal build-up, but I did everything I could to recover and still gave my best on the mats today. There are no excuses…just part of the journey as an athlete. Losses are never easy, especially when you put so much time, effort, and sacrifice. But this sport has taught me that growth doesn’t only come from winning. It comes from showing up, facing adversity, and having the courage to compete against the best, even when sometime what you plan not always on your way! No sad story on to the next ….heal up properly, improve the areas that need work, and come back stronger…it’s another chapter in the journey. Most importantly, thank you to everyone who has supported me. To my @daishobjjkids @daishobjjkids family, thank you for always believing in me. To all of my training partners @bjj.oss @oscar.siew @ouka_aoki @tetsurosato95 , thank you for pushing me every single day and helping me become better. And to my wife @raychelbaikanfrayn , thank you for standing beside me through every high and low, for your patience, encouragement, and unconditional support. I couldn’t do this without you. And my sponsor @hooksbrand A special thank you for believing in me and supporting my journey. It is an honor to represent your brand on the international stage. Your trust and support mean a lot to me, and I’m grateful to wear your gi while pursuing my goals. I hope to continue making you proud, both in victory and in defeat.
