Thank you to everyone who joined us for a memorable afternoon at FIU! 📚

On October 7, KG-LACC and the Green School of International and Public Affairs welcomed Ruperto Long, author of The Girl Who Watched the Trains Depart, and Dr. Jorge Grünberg, President of Universidad ORT Uruguay, for a special conversation exploring a remarkable story of survival, memory, family, resilience, and hope.

The book tells the moving story of Charlotte de Grünberg, who fled Nazi-occupied Belgium as a child, survived the Holocaust in hiding in France, and later rebuilt her life in Uruguay. In a conversation moderated by Dr. Gabriela Hoberman, KG-LACC Academic Program Director, Long and Dr. Grünberg reflected on the history behind the book and the enduring importance of preserving personal and collective memory across generations.

We were grateful for the wonderful attendance and thoughtful engagement from our FIU and South Florida communities.

Special thanks to Ruperto Long and Dr. Jorge Grünberg for sharing this powerful story with us; Dr. Shlomi Dinar, Dean of the Green School; María Virginia Tebot Denis, Consul General of Uruguay in Miami; and Dr. José Miguel Cruz, KG-LACC Interim Director, for joining us and helping make this gathering so meaningful.

Presented in collaboration with Universidad ORT Uruguay, the Consulate General of Uruguay in Miami, FIU Global Jewish Studies Program, and FIU Holocaust & Genocide Studies Program.

Thank you to our speakers, partners, colleagues, students, and community members for making this such a special event. 💙

The Kimberly Green Latin American & Caribbean Center (@fiulacc) launched the Latin American and Caribbean Trailblazer Lecture Series this week with a talk from Gaston Taratuta, founder and CEO of Aleph and a 2022 EY Global Entrepreneur of the Year.

An FIU alumnus, Taratuta spoke on the opportunities and challenges facing Latin American entrepreneurs competing in the global digital economy, including how artificial intelligence is reshaping the future of work and what that means for higher education in the region. Aleph, a digital infrastructure that connects global platforms, advertisers and financial services to the fastest growing digital economies, operates in more than 130 countries and has trained hundreds of thousands of people through its Digital Ad Expert initiative.

Presented in collaboration with the @fiueconomics and @fiubusiness, this event provided students with a unique opportunity to engage directly with a global leader whose work continues to shape the future of advertising, innovation and entrepreneurship. We are grateful to Mr. Taratuta for sharing his insights and experiences and for taking the time to connect so generously with our students.

This series will continue to bring distinguished leading Latin American voices to the Green School community, and we look forward to hosting the next iteration of the Trailblazer Lecture Series very soon! taken in FIU Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs by @fiulacc
