The Kimberly Green Latin American & Caribbean Center (@fiulacc) launched the Latin American and Caribbean Trailblazer Lecture Series this week with a talk from Gaston Taratuta, founder and CEO of Aleph and a 2022 EY Global Entrepreneur of the Year.

An FIU alumnus, Taratuta spoke on the opportunities and challenges facing Latin American entrepreneurs competing in the global digital economy, including how artificial intelligence is reshaping the future of work and what that means for higher education in the region. Aleph, a digital infrastructure that connects global platforms, advertisers and financial services to the fastest growing digital economies, operates in more than 130 countries and has trained hundreds of thousands of people through its Digital Ad Expert initiative.

Presented in collaboration with the @fiueconomics and @fiubusiness, this event provided students with a unique opportunity to engage directly with a global leader whose work continues to shape the future of advertising, innovation and entrepreneurship. We are grateful to Mr. Taratuta for sharing his insights and experiences and for taking the time to connect so generously with our students.

This series will continue to bring distinguished leading Latin American voices to the Green School community, and we look forward to hosting the next iteration of the Trailblazer Lecture Series very soon!

FIU in D.C. just launched our newest program series CUBA Desk

Here we brings timely conversations on Cuba to Washington, connecting researchers and policy experts to share their perspectives on the issues shaping the island.

We kicked off the series with two programs:

“Enemy Within? Cuban Intelligence Penetration in the United States” explored Cuban intelligence activity and its implications for U.S. national security.
“The Pulse of Democracy: Launch of the Cuban Dashboards” introduced new data and research examining public opinion, democratic attitudes, and political change in Cuba.

A special thank you to our panelists and moderators for sharing their insights and helping lead these important conversations. We are grateful to our collaborators at the Adam Smith Center for Economic Freedom, Foundation for Human Rights in Cuba, Archivo Cuba, Jack D. Gordon Institute for Public Policy, Vanderbilt University, and Kimberly Green Latin American and Caribbean Center for helping make the launch of Cuba Desk successful.

With many thanks to Americans for Immigrant Justice for featuring and supporting my work! Great initiative! @americansforimmigrantjustice

Bandeira de Mello describes poetry as “an engine fueled by imagination.” Through both writing and visual art, she invites audiences into “a world of possibilities,” shaped by ambiguity, association, and the subconscious.

She hopes readers and viewers will enter that world freely, rather than search for a single fixed interpretation. For her, art is a shared experience, but one that must also grant “great liberty to the observer.” That sense of care extends to the act of publishing itself. “A writer should not just publish anything,” she explains. “It is important to give thought to what is worthwhile a reader’s time and attention.” At the center of her practice is the belief that “true art facilitates a conversation from soul to soul.”
