We asked three mums at The Mother’s Table earlier this week: what’s one thing you’d recommend to mums to help look after their mental health?

Here’s what they had to say…

✨Pick up a hobby and figure out what you enjoy outside of being a mum

✨Book that pregnancy massage make time for yourself and let yourself be looked after

✨Take everything as it comes and give yourself the time to reflect on how you feel about things

What advice would YOU give to mums for looking after their mental health? Let us know in the comments

Yesterday, we took our new “Understanding Black Maternal Mental Health in The UK” findings to Parliament for the latest meeting of the APPG (All Party Parliamentary Group) on Black Maternal Health.

The findings explore the experiences of Black women during pregnancy and after birth, including the barriers that can affect access to mental health support and the gaps that still need to be addressed.

These findings formed the centre of our discussion, bringing together parliamentarians, healthcare professionals, campaigners and community voices to share experiences, reflect on the research and discuss what needs to happen next.

A huge thank you to our speakers for sharing their expertise and experiences, to our chair @bell_ribeiroaddy for championing this important work in Parliament and to everyone who attended and contributed to the conversation.

Understanding Black Maternal Mental Health in the UK: New Findings are now available.

We know people are tired of reports. There is no shortage of recommendations, evidence and calls for change when it comes to Black maternal health.

However we wanted to create one place where credible information about Black women’s maternal mental health experiences could be brought together, understood and, importantly, used.

These new findings build on what Black women told us in our previous research and take a closer look at maternal mental health. The experiences behind the statistics, the challenges women are facing, and what needs greater attention.

Black maternal mental health cannot be treated as an afterthought. And Black women should not have to keep telling their stories without those experiences leading to greater understanding and meaningful change.

Read and explore the findings via the link in our bio.

Our first ever Mother’s Table was everything we hoped it would be and more 🖤

We’ve dreamed about hosting this space for a long time. To gather right at the start of Black Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week for such a beautiful, intimate evening felt incredibly aligned.

This evening was all about celebrating mums and mums to be and the village behind it - our mothers, midwives, doulas and community builders.

We see you, we honor you and we are so proud of you. This is our little way of saying thank you! #BlackMaternalMentalHealth #FiveXMore by @fivexmore_

Black maternal mental health matters.

Our latest findings on Black maternal mental health in the UK are here. Building on our 2025 Black Maternity Experiences Survey, we looked at what Black women told us about their mental health before, during and after pregnancy, and the support they received.

The findings highlight significant gaps in recognition and support, while also showing the difference good care can make.

To explore the full findings please visit the link in our bio or go on our website www.fivexmore.org

It is Black Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week in the UK, 21st - 27th September.

We know that many Black mothers carry how they’re really feeling quietly, rather than reaching out for support and we want that to change.

Swipe to see a few ways you can look after your mental health and look after yourself this week and beyond.

We see you and are here for you 🤎
