As @porsche celebrates the 25th anniversary of the 996, the original water-cooled 911, I wanted to share with you my passion behind the 996.

It all started back in 2000, when I was 8 years old and my dad got a Guards Red 996.1 Tip. We went everywhere, I’ll never forget the sounds from the Borla exhaust and all the memories in that car (including my little brother vomiting in the backseat from being carsick 🤣). My father has always had 911s growing up, but the 996 gen appeared twice and the second time was when I had my restricted license and it was the first 911 I drove. Also gave him a minor heart attack when he saw me line up next to a STI at a red light. But in all honesty the 996 was never as appreciated as other gens and labeled as the ugly 911, but not to me. The interior carried these curves like I’ve never seen, and the size still seemed small compared the aircooled generations. The 996 has always been special to me.

I’ve had my 996 for about a year and a half now, and it’s been a bit of a project to get this back to a reliable 911. My son is enjoying it as much as I am and it brings back so many feelings with every comment or reaction he makes. But through all the ups and downs the journey is the best part. Another step in refining the 996.

A little different from your typical 996 setup, my front bumper is actually a modified 986.2 bumper, and the Rennline Carbon Fiber Front Lip takes it to another level of OEM+.

The quality, finish, and fitment are excellent, giving the front end a more refined and aggressive look without taking away from the original design.

Huge shoutout to @rennline & @pelicanparts for another beautifully crafted product. Sometimes it’s the subtle details that make the biggest difference.

One espresso later… ☕️

Installed the @rennline Carbon Fiber Cup Style Mirrors on the 996, bringing a cleaner, more motorsport-inspired look to the car.

Huge shoutout to @rennline & @pelicanparts for such a well-designed product. The quality and fitment are excellent, and the installation was so straightforward I managed to get it done over a single shot of espresso.

Put together a quick video of the installation and a few shots of how they look on the car. Another small detail in the ongoing evolution of the 996.

The goal was never just to get it lower — it was to get it right.

Back at @tunersmotorsports for some much-needed maintenance and refinement. Fresh oil, adjustable rear toe arms, new tie rods, followed by a proper corner balance and alignment to make the 996 more predictable and sharpen up the steering.

We settled on Euro GT3 RS ride height, giving it the stance I wanted while keeping the focus on how the car actually drives.

Another step in refining the 996. 🏁

Weighing in at 3,050lbs with gas and misc inside the car

Prior setup had any highway speed left the rear unpredictable

Tie rods were in desperate need for replacements.

Adjustable @tarettengineering rear toe arms

Out with the old!

OZs are on! E88s rebuild will be a future project.

New stance! Can finally use a jack without having to use ramps

Heading back to @tunersmotorsports for fresh oil, an alignment, and some suspension fine-tuning. Always chasing a better version of the 996.
