Join Flatbush Mixtape at the Lefferts Historic House for fall gardening workdays on Sundays in September! We will be working on the community garden FM has been stewarding since summer 2025, newly renamed Flora’s Garden, from 11am-1pm every Sunday. Everyone is welcome, no experience or materials needed. Registration is not required but will be used to keep in touch with volunteers about future workdays. Please wear clothes you can get dirty and closed-toed shoes - we have gloves, tools, bug spray, and snacks. We will notify through Discord/email if there’s a change/cancellation. We expect to be out there every week in October too, but we’ll post an update confirming by the end of this month.

Location: Lefferts Historic House, 452 Flatbush Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11225 (park entrance on Flatbush Ave)
Time: 11am-1pm (feel free to drop in for as long as you can)

Join us this Saturday, July 11th, as we gather for our mixed in-person/zoom General Meeting at Clarendon Branch Library.

Bring a snack to share if you can.

This meeting we will do q summer check in, and planning ahead for our community projects, including recovering from an unfortunate garden incident (the tree is ok), and mutual aid food projects. We will also update on emergency prep.

Agenda items include updates of our garden network, and the newly opened tool library.

Following the updates, as always we will have a group discussion about what a Solidarity Economy can look like in Flatbush!

The Flatbush Tool Library is now open! You can start checking out our inventory today at flatbushtools.myturn.com. Send an email to Flatbushtoollibrary@gmail.com to complete the liability waiver to begin renting.

Weekly we will check in to adjust our opening hours to fit with volunteer availability. Become a Library member in order to be onboarded and work Tool Library volunteer shifts. We are looking to build a team of members to help run and organize the tool library.

Look out soon for the Flatbush Tool Library IG page. We are seeking a volunteer social media team, to help grow our online presence, and a community outreach team to help bring awareness to our neighbors. Stay tuned for the next General meeting, and opportunities to get involved.

We are also still building out our grab and go tool kits A.K.A The Flatbush Tool Box. Check out the tool box slide above, to see what items we are looking for currently. Donations can be made during open hours, with reservation. DM to schedule, or email Flatbushtoollibrary@gmail.com .

We are happy to announce a community partnership with @q_gardens ! We look forward to building our community alongside our green-thumbed neighbors. We talk a lot about building the world we want to live in. Solidarity Day is a chance to practice what that can actually look like.

On Saturday, October 24th, we’re bringing Flatbush Mixtape, our neighbors, and community partners together at Lefferts Historic House for a day of food, conversation, skill sharing, and connection.

We’ll start the morning with breakfast from @flatbushladle , then spend the day digging into the solidarity economy and some of the ways we’re already trying to build it here in Flatbush.
Come learn about our Garden Network, Tool Library, mutual aid work, emergency preparedness, worker co-ops, Offers + Needs, Chat, Laugh, and Snack, and the other projects our neighbors have been stewarding.

We’ll have an Offers + Needs workshop where we can start naming what we have to share and what we need from one another.

We’ll have a Solidarity Swap for small clothing items and non-perishable food. Bring what you can, take what you need. You do not need to bring anything to participate.

And throughout the day, FM initiatives and community partners will be sharing their work, answering questions, and talking about how all of these pieces can connect.

The point isn’t that Flatbush Mixtape has all the answers. We don’t.

The point is to get more of us in the same place, sharing what we know, building relationships, and figuring out how we can meet more of our needs together instead of alone.

🍂 Community care doesn’t take a season off. This October, we’re continuing to bring fresh food, essential resources, and community support directly to our neighbors in Little Caribbean.

Join us for our third Repair Walk!

We will walk from Flatbush Library to the Clarendon branch, visiting and interviewing local practitioners who repair, reuse, and transform objects. As with all future Repair Walks, we will collect their stories and document these often-unsung practices in our neighborhoods. Our goal is to build a digital map of the people, places, resources, and stories connected to repair and reuse traditions across Brooklyn.

On Saturday, September 26, the Flatbush Library hosted the first installment of our special five-part Repair Cafe series, inspired by "Manuals By Hand: Writing as Repair."

These sessions invite our community to explore the meaningful stories behind everyday objects and learn how to document them. During this first gathering, participants worked together on a hands-on project: repairing a bicycle inner tube brought in by an attendee.

Working step by step, we documented both the physical repair and the personal history connected to the item, transforming the process into a zine-style manual. Through these efforts, we are helping build a living archive that preserves local knowledge, memory, and heritage for the Repurposeful Ancestry Lab.

We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who joined us in fixing, writing, and archiving together. Thank you to all the participants who helped make this event so special!

Please join us tomorrow for our next Repair Cafe, "Materials for Repair: Using Local Resources More Creatively, From Havana to Brooklyn"

Maurice Haedo Sanabria will present his experiences in Cuba as part of the Copincha makerspace, where members develop open-source solutions for local challenges, such as resource scarcity and limited internet access. His presentation will show how people everywhere can use available materials more creatively and use tools such as 3D printers as machines for repairing, reusing, and transforming everyday objects.

Oct. 5 from 4:00 - 5:45 pm, at Flatbush Library

This time, everybody is welcome to bring objects that are broken, damaged, or repaired.

After a presentation on the theme above, we will turn to the objects that attendees bring, to fix them or study how they were repaired, while exploring the stories connected to them.
