Cancer can profoundly affect our physical health. But isolation can take a profound toll on our emotional health, too.

Healing can happen when we find people who understand what we’ve been through — people who make us feel seen and less alone.

But not everyone finds that community.

Something we’ve witnessed again and again while making Re/Construction is that individual experiences can become shared experiences, shared experiences create community, and community becomes a place where healing can begin.

It’s been quite the journey and now it’s all@behind me. There has been so much healing, so many memories, so many connections. When your pain is dismissed, what do you do with it?
Quand votre douleur est ignorée, qu’en faites-vous ?

Blandine was living with physical pain after breast reconstruction when she was told the problem was in her head.

Instead of accepting that dismissal, Blandine turned her experience outward. She decided she needed to do something for other women in France.

That transformation is at the heart of Re/Construction: women taking experiences in which they felt unheard, dismissed or denied — and using them to create change for the women who come after them.

Hanna knew what she wanted. Her doctor had a different idea.

When Hanna chose mastectomy without breast reconstruction, she had to argue to have that choice respected. Then her doctor told her they would reconstruct her so she could “look like a real woman.”

Re/Construction follows women like Hanna whose decisions about their own bodies have been questioned, dismissed or denied — and the movement working to change that.

There’s no stopping, there may be some pausing, for connecting, for healing for grounding, and waiting for the divine grace to tell you what your next step is - but with trust and faith you move forward. I continue to reflect on my journey with two breast cancer diagnosis and I continue to affirm the blessings that have shown up for me. Among the many things I am grateful for, I feel utterly blessed by #community and discovering the various places and spaces where I have been able to feel a sense of #belonging, a sense of #purpose, and feel like I can still have an #impact and #makeadifference. My friends at @brightermagazine continue to inspire me through the work they do supporting women diagnosed with cancer. I had a wonderful time at this photo shoot supporting their latest edition of their magazine. I am excited to learn more about the impact of yoga on the body after cancer. Farahana Kassam is a writer, speaker, and end of life doula dedicated to helping people navigate life’s transitions with courage, presence, and compassion.
As a two-time breast cancer survivor, she transformed her own challenges into purpose by founding Flaunt Flat Revolution, a non-profit supporting women after breast cancer.

She is a passionate advocate for women choosing to stay flat, helping them embrace body positivity, reclaim strength, and celebrate resilience after losing their breasts.

Farahana’s journey through breast cancer, personal loss, and her work as an end-of-life doula inspires her to live with intention, passion, and purpose and through storytelling and sharing her experiences, she encourages others to do the same, bringing meaning and fullness to their own lives.

Exercise, exercise exercise - the benefits of moving our bodies, continues to be shown to reduce health risks for all kinds of illnesses and diseases - and YET many struggle!

So when @dchor_fitness and @sweatatzerofitness shared their interest to support Flaunt Flat Revolution - we were not only excited about the opportunity but encouraged and motivated to get others out to join the fun, get moving, and get giving! Because this is an opportunity to get your own work out in but also to support a cause. So we are so excited to be participating with them and hope that as many of you as possible will join us this Saturday, Dec. 6th starting at 5:30 pm at the 24 Hr Fitness at 6500 Old Denton Hwy 📍in Fort Worth.
